“Nice”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

Nice place to live, if you gonna stay there a week you should choose the new cabins.
But Odd Eliassens his is nice to, the view from the Apartments is fantastic, you can se the Kvitåvatn and Gaustatoppen (1881 moh).

Room Tip: I recommend Odd Eliassens hus or the new cabins.

This is a ski paradise. Actually it is a great all arounder resort. You can finally go on holiday with your alpine and cross country mates all together. It is great for back country and tele mark as well. My friends and I often struggle to find resorts which have both top class alpine/boarder runs and proper cross country tracks and this is one of the few resorts that hits all our needs. As a cross country skier - i was spoilt for choice and had wonderful spring skiing conditions - blue bird days and crusty snow I even got quite a nice sun tan. there are even light runs so you can ski into the evening or go out after dinner! We spent a week here, as the only girl - i got a whole 4 bunk room to myself but my mates shared in a 4 bunk room. There was plenty of room and it was very clean despite it being shared bathrooms and showers. the lodge is in a beautiful setting with views of Gausta and other mountains in the back ground. The lodge is so comfy there are sitting rooms on ground and lower ground floors a cinema and a lecture room. The canteen is excellent with plenty of food on offer for veggies and meat eaters. the breakfasts are epic and you pack a lunch from the breakfast bar to eat on the slopes or trail it is impossible to go hungry there with fresh healthy food. A nice touch is that tea coffee water and hot drinks are self served through out the day and night and there is a well equipt store and bar at the hotel. the staff is super friendly and effiecient and the hotel faciliies for skiing, ski storeage and ski waxing is the best I have seen anywhere and I have skied all over Europe and Scandi. I was very happy staying in the main building in a dorm becuase i could go to breakfast in my pijays and relax in them in the lounge at night but some of our friends stayed in the cabins attached to the lodge and they were beatiful and comfy and a great option for a more romantic or private stay. they also have cabins for groups or families which are really nice. we just wanted the cheapest option for us but all all great options

Room Tip: get a room or cabin that faces Gaustablikk for the best views room in th main lodge mean you don'...

Just spent a week here, two of us in a 4 bunk room. Very clean and warm (-15c) outside. A great place to ski from loads of trails and off track tours to do with plenty of bad weather options. Guys in the ski hire very friendly helpful and full of tips & advice.
Food was ample with buffet / canteen service with veggy options, great for those having skied all day!! Although wine & beer available (at a price) drinking your own duty free in lounge area was ok so use your duty free allowance. Child friendly so watch which weeks you book if you want a quieter evening. Meal times can be busy so either go early or allow plenty of time.
Not all rooms have kettles but tea & coffee available all day free in dinning room.

Our second visit and it offers as before good value for money. We stayed in an old house on the first floor with the hostel-kitchen underneath. Some evenings a little bit noise from other guests, but no problem. Soon the road between Rjukan and Gaustablikk will be ok too. Rjukan is wonderful historic place. A unique place, definitely worth trying to enter the World Heritage list

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the antique houses!

Stayed here for a week on a cross country skiing trip arranged by Exodus. Had a private en-suite room in Odds House which was very warm and comfortable. The self service meal arrangements worked well and everything was fresh, the right temperature and never ran out. Veggies were well catered for and always had a special evening meal which was wholesome and tasty. The bar was only open between 5-9pm which was a bit restrictive but most people seemed to have a stash of their own supplies. Walkways between the buildings were very icy and grit seemed to be in short supply, so spikes could be useful to avoid slipping over. If you're not keen on hordes of children running wild, choose carefully when you go - even outside of school holidays there were dozens of children, although many were pre-school. Check what cross country events are on if you want to avoid the masses. Our last night was a completely different affair and much more civilised once the majority of over excited children had gone home! Overall a great little place.

Room Tip: Private ensuite rooms in Odds House were great and have a mezzanine floor with a further sleeping ar...
