We stayed here touring the fjords, and had a wonderful experience. The host was very friendly and helpful, breakfast was included and quite delicious, and the view from the room was excellent.

I will definitely stay here next time I am in Balestrand.

A delightful stay. Our gracious host met us at the ferry landing to take our luggage to the hotel. Since we and another couple were the only guests at the landing, he told all of us to climb in to his car and drove us to the hotel. The room was comfortable, with a spectacular view of the fjord. Our hosts gave great advice about dining, and provided a delicious breakfast in the morning before taking our luggage to the ferry landing. We were sorry we only had one night here, and will definitely plan to stay here again if we return to the Sognfjord.

Room Tip: The rooms with fjord views are more expensive, but well worth it.

We stayed for 3 nights and had a lovely stay. Room was great as well as views and breakfast. Unni and Eric were fabulous and very helpful. Love that you can buy a beer and sit outside and enjoy the beautiful views. This town is very quiet and relaxing. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

This very friendly, small hotel is a short walk (past a lovely church and other historical buildings) from the main center. Like the structure of the hotel, our room was basic but very comfortable with a wonderful balcony overlooking the fjord. We put it to good use. From there, we could see the well groomed lawn and lakeside sitting area that is reserved for hotel guests. Unni Marie offered water shoes (the steps into the water are a bit slippery) and thick white towels. Next time, we will take a dip.

Unni-Marie and Eric are gracious, helpful hosts who want to make sure you enjoy your stay. They are a great source of information on what to do in the area, which besides the beautiful fjord, offers really nice, well marked hiking. Laundry can be done upon request. The breakfast buffet was fresh, plentiful and of high quality. There are a number of restaurants for dinner only a short walk away. We had a very special meal at Kviknes Hotel (which also has a very well stocked shop for Norwegian gifts).

We definitely enjoyed our stay here.

Room Tip: Room with a balcony over looking the fjord!

We are a couple (age ~50) that stayed 3 nights in Balestrand hotel. We had great time there. Our room had a view to the beautiful fjord, and at night with the full moon above it, it was fantastic. The place is clean, pleasant, with free hot drinks all day, and cozy leaving room that we enjoyed sitting at the evenings. Breakfast with a fresh baked bread was a delightful start in the mornings. We even enjoyed their private beach near the fjord. And above all is the remarkable family staff: very helpful in issues of restaurants, trips, and personal matters. It was perfect and we enjoyed every minute there!

Room Tip: It is a bit more expensive, but we enjoyed very much the room with the view to the fjord.

My wife & I stayed (4) nights at the Balestrand Hotel in late August 2013...(Note: Make sure you purchase a Rick Steve's Snapshot Norway book - who highly recommends this hotel & also provides MANY other tourist travel tips on Balestrand & other cities, areas in Norway.

The owners (Unnie- Marie & Eric Palmer) were wonderful hosts - nice clean rooms, yummy breakfast (included as part of daily room cost) & a hotel just across the street from the waters of the Sognefjord & surrounded by beautiful mountains.....If you have questions about tourist things to do in the area - just email (in norwegian or english) Unnie-Marie & she will gladly reply. Make sure you reserve a fjord-facing room, which includes your own balcony & fabulous views.

Balestrad, is a small (but not tiny) town, with 3 good restaurants (suggest Gekkens - try the meatballl or salmon diners; the Cider House is very good also & a bit more spendy) - all within an easy walk from the hotel. Finally, if you want to get away from the "nutshell crowd" spend a few days in Balestrand - just take the Express Boat from Flam & when your stay is completed in Balestrand, you can take the Express Boat back to Flam & complete the Nutshell route or take the Express boat via the Sognefjord to Bergen......awesome city on the Norwegian Sea!!!

Room Tip: Definitely reserve a fjord-facing room
