“Sanden Pensjonat, the ultimate authentic and humane experience”

After a desperate search to find a room the day after New Year's Eve, we could but hoping for a miracle. Our wildest wishes were fullfilled when we spotted light in what looked like a fairy tale house. Though the pension was actually closed, the owner gave us a warm welcome and rushed to prepare a room for us. And what a room! Heavenly cosy and warm with a lovely, soothing colour scheme. Even the bedding and linnen were a joy to the eye. The breakfast was equally rewarding: tasty, fresh, served in a beautiful living room full of antiques, including an amazing old coal stove. The owner, a friendly, soft spoken, knowledgeable young gentleman was a joy to talk to. We felt like pampered guests and left with a warm, wonderful feeling. We would come back any time and even make a huge detour to stay there again.
Outstanding value for money is an additional bonus.

Room Tip: If every hotel is full or closed, try to find a pension or B&B where the owners are living on th...

My family stayed in the house where we had two bedrooms, a living area and a kitchen. The proprietors were very accommodating of our weird arrival/departure schedule. For the couple of days that we stayed in Laerdal, this house felt like home. It was an easy walk to the grocery stores, so cooking meals was very easy. We took several evening walks to the waterside and found nice walking paths, enjoying the constant roar of nearby falls. Many interesting sites are within an hour's drive, including the Borgund Stave Church, the Sogn Folk Museum, and Flam (via the world's longest tunnel). I am surprised more people don't visit the area during early October; the changing of the leaves added a great deal to the scenery.

Room Tip: During the off-season, dining choices in the area are very limited, so we needed that kitchen.

Set in the midst of very picturesque Lærdalsøyri, this pension offers a look back in time. Our large double room with separate bathroom was very cosy. Some other rooms have less quality. The breakfast was basic like a typically Norwegian family breakfast. The breakfast room was a actually a very nice old living room.
I do believe the owners should set up a sign directing customers to the correct entrance. I read here in Tripadvisor about people trying to break into the barricaded breakfast room around the corner from the entrance. We first went to the adjoining house, painted the same, and ended up in the living room of a nice old lady who sort of was expecting us. Smilingly she directed us to the proper entrance, apparently not for the first time.

I spent 1 week, a great holiday in Laerdal in the Sanden Pensjonat in July.
The pensjonat is in a good location, 2 minutes walk from bus, supermarket, restaurant,
a perfect base of daily trips by bus, boat, or just around the village.
The pensjonat is simple and great, like it has and needs to be an old house of an old village,
the owners are friendly and helpful.
I can recommend the place for everyone who wants to rest or discover the area,
(except for snobs) !

Although it is a small town, there are several hotels in Laerdal. Based on guest ratings and prices on TripAdvisor, my wife and I decided to stay here. We were not disappointed with our upstairs room (with a private bathroom) in this older historic building.

The breakfast buffet was generous and tasty--especially the coffee.

A not-to-miss attraction is the best preserved stave church in Norway--about 25 km away from Laerdal.

I have rent the summerhouse in Øyragata 9, and I realy have fallen for the place. It`s an old and calming atmosphere, in the old senter of Lærdalsøyri. It is also very litle traffic in the street. The house have all you need. Two bedrooms, livingroom, kitchen and a new and modern bathroom. I will definately go back there for my next stay in Lærdal!

We were driving from Oslo and weren't sure of our arrive time, Jon (the owner) was very understanding and flexible. When we finally arrived, his manager David was there with a warm welcome and quick to get us set up in room No 1. The room was spacious, tidy and bright. We especially appreciated the ability to open the windows and enjoy the crisp evening air. I think the only thing that might take folks by surprise is the shower with it's folding doors, but they're fairly common in Scandinavia and are pretty easy to get use to and operate.

Since we were the only ones in the B&B (beginning of the winter season), David was kind enough to ask what we wanted - so we walked into the breakfast room especially laid out for us. Great customer service (BTW David, eggs were done to perfection).

The B&B is situated in the old town center, just at the end. Walking to the little store in the evening was a great way of seeing the little town, not to mention the surrounding mountains in twilight.
