Sanden Pensjonat

We staryed at Sanden Pensjonat while driving from Oslo to Bergen in Aug '13. This is my second visit to the hotel. The last time I was here was in 2006. Very little seems to have changed in terms of rooms except that WIFI is available.
The hotel has limited options for food and the complimentary breakfast is very basic.
Overall the hotel gives a warm feeling of being in a small Kommune where you spend more time to yourself and with family.
The toilets need to be cleaner though.

Room Tip: Dont take the room on the top most floor as it is a challenge walking up the stairs.

Cool place with nice service, very good location nearby fiord. Reasonable price for quality you get, what's more breakfast is included in price. Traditional interior makes it cozy & warm. Really good recomendation if You're traveling there.

Good location in Laerdal, nice place, but the room is very simple and basic for the price: 117 €, a very small room without wardrobe. Toilet inside the room. It was clean. the breakfast is a small buffet, normal. The timetable for the breakfast is very small, so the room was crowed at breakfast and some people had to wait until other finished.

This is a great place to stay if you're looking for laid back and excellent value in Norway, especially when one thinks breakfast is included. The staff were very helpful and absolutely lovely. The rooms are nice too, and very clean. Perhaps the only thing that would improve it is somewhere to sit and have a cup of tea during the day, but that's minor. Would definitely go again.

When arriving, we were met by a locked door despite having booked in advance. After having called the owners pr. telephone, we gained access to the bnb and our room. The room was with a private bath, which was good, if not amazing. Laerdal is VERY quiet, so we slept well. Breakfast was simple with some meats and a little cheese accompanied by milk and orange juice. We had, falsely, expected a living room in which to get to know other guests, but this was locked during our stay.

We had room #2, the largest room according to the floor plan on the back of the door. It was large, cheerful, airy and had roller blinds to darken the room from the early rising summer sun. The bed was comfortable enough, the duvet was a perfect weight but the pillows were very uncomfortable. The bath was modern and clean with nice heated floors. There was a strong wifi signal in the room. Unfortunately there are no racks or benches to place luggage and we didn't think the nice wooden table was the right place to put a suitcase. The house is more than 100 years old and made of wood. The quality of your sleep may depend on the quietness of your neighbors because the walls are thin and the floors squeak. We could hear our upstairs neighbor departing at 5:30 one morning repeatedly zipping and unzipping his suitcase; where ever he was standing there was a persistent squeak in the floor. Breakfast was very limited in choices but I never left hungry. The hosts were genial and helpful.

After a desperate search to find a room the day after New Year's Eve, we could but hoping for a miracle. Our wildest wishes were fullfilled when we spotted light in what looked like a fairy tale house. Though the pension was actually closed, the owner gave us a warm welcome and rushed to prepare a room for us. And what a room! Heavenly cosy and warm with a lovely, soothing colour scheme. Even the bedding and linnen were a joy to the eye. The breakfast was equally rewarding: tasty, fresh, served in a beautiful living room full of antiques, including an amazing old coal stove. The owner, a friendly, soft spoken, knowledgeable young gentleman was a joy to talk to. We felt like pampered guests and left with a warm, wonderful feeling. We would come back any time and even make a huge detour to stay there again.
Outstanding value for money is an additional bonus.

Room Tip: If every hotel is full or closed, try to find a pension or B&B where the owners are living on th...
