As many others we followed the advice of other reviewers and walked to the other end of Hondarribia to have dinner at this restaurant. Our expectations were very high!
The restaurant looked very nice and the atmosphere and interior were pleasant even though we were among the first guests.
As starter we ordered Panache de verduras. It was a great disappointment. Little had we expected a huge plate full of overcooked vegetables with very little flavour.
For main course my wife had ordered Solomillo Idiazabal; Beef sirloin with cheese sauce, fried potatoes, Gernika peppers and Idiazabal chips. The meat was very ordinary, the sauce did not have much taste and all in all it wasn't very interesting.
I ordered the slowcooked beef cheeks. I was also disappointed since they did not taste much at all.
We were also offered different small treats inbetween the courses, and some of these were very good. But still, we had expected so much more from this restaurant. This was the most expensive meal during our week in Spain, but definitely not the best.

Having read some of the rave reviews from other contributors, we went here as a birthday celebration. We liked the decor and ambience of the restaurant and were greeted warmly and served efficiently. The wine choice was good and priced fairly. We asked for a recommendation for a local wine and were very pleased with the result - a delightful white with a good nose and a pleasant note of blackcurrant. The food was certainly competent but we felt that the fish we ordered for our main courses wasn't quite as fresh as what we had experienced at other restaurants in Honarribia. The general standard of fish available in the town is very high. The grilled vegetable starter ordered by my wife she felt was fairly ordinary although the crayfish starter I ordered was good but no better than other salads in more run of the mill restaurants in the town. My wife commented that if you don't eat shellfish, the choice of dishes is quite restricted. On a more positive note, our deserts were both excellent and a highlight to finish with. A nice touch was also the pre-starter, glass of sparkling wine and post-dessert provided by the house.

This was the most expensive meal in over a week of eating out in Honarribia. You are undoubtedly paying extra for the decor and service. Equal or better quality food is available at lower cost elsewhere.

All in all, we enjoyed our visit to Arroka-Berri and had we not gone with such high expectations, we would probably have been delighted.

It's a restaurant that seeming could only exist in Hondaribbia: a world-class neighborhood restaurant. We arrived too early at 8pm (as Americans we couldn't stand it anymore), but were greeted kindly and with English menus. The dining room is elegant without being fussy, with views out onto a lighted courtyard. The owner's family eventually started dining, with the kids escaping outside to go swing while the older people chatted away. The food itself was wonderful, my wife had fish cheeks, I had white fish. As stated, the meal is expensive, but there are generous extras and the the quality is top notch, and at least on that night, you felt like you were dining with family.

We are always looking forward to our next meal at Arroka Berri. Excellent service, a kind staff with exceptional products prepared the best way. Whether we are in Paris or New York we find ourselves daydreaming of the delightful ham platter, grilled monkfish or Basque lamb. Another plus... the original wines that we discover regularly! Save room for dessert!!

Excellent position, high above the town overlooking the harbour. Good parking opposite the restaurant. Impressive terrace, heated (we visted on a January evening, although we eat inside). Modern sophisticated decor/ambience. The prices may initially appear on the high side, but if you factor in the free elements of the meal (a delightful amuse bouche of tempura battered prawn and a small glass of soup, a generous portion of Serrano ham accompanied by bruschetta, a glass of cava, a selection of petit fours, and a digestive, the meal is outstanding value. Wine reasonably priced.
