My husband and I stayed here for a week in mid-September at the start of a two and a half week holiday in Majorca. It was a haven of peace and tranquility, which is just what we needed. We had a lovely big double room on the first floor overlooking the courtyard, with a four-poster bed and a large bathroom with bath and shower. There was a small terrace just next to our room with a table, chairs, parasol and sun lounger, which we tended to use after breakfast before we went out for the day.
Breakfast was continental style with meats, cheeses, fruit, bread, pastries, fruit juices and limitless tea and coffee. Eggs, however you liked them, bacon and omelettes were also available. On all but one day during our stay, we were able to enjoy breakfast in the attractive courtyard, which is always a treat on holiday.
Staff were very friendly and obliging and the hotel itself is beautifully furnished throughout. There is a lovely guest lounge with plenty of comfy seating, which would be welcome when the weather is not so kind as it was when we were there.
Guests can help themselves to beer, wine, soft drinks and water from the fridge in the kitchen, which you keep a record of and pay for when you check out. There was also a selection of spirits available in the lounge and a coffee machine in the foyer.
There is a small garden with sun loungers and a small covered pool but this was a bit too cold for us!
There is a free car park just a short walk away but you can park briefly outside the hotel to drop off/pick up luggage.
There is a good selection of restaurants and bars in Arta, all within easy walking distance of the hotel, which makes this an ideal place to stay to enjoy all that Arta has to offer.

We stayed there for four very long nights. When we arrived at 2.30 pm our room was not ready. On arrival I was guided into a crammed office, where I had to sign a booking form, of which I did not get a copy of. There is no reception as such at the hotel.

The lady on check in offered to carry up my luggage to the room, she was so tiny, I could have not employed her to do that. In short there was no one to help with our luggage.

All public rooms are nicely decorated in an old fashioned but authentic style but with lots of artificial flowers (not so pretty to look at, rather sad). All lights were switched off most of the time; it did not feel like a hotel but rather like a private home, where someone is following you around to close all doors and switch out all lights. We had to use a side gate, the front entrance was locked all the time. The Lady of the hotel explained they would not be able to control who comes in etc.

The room looked totally run down. It lacked any style, was cheaply and sadly not even cheerful decorated. The bath room was a small nightmare, stuffed out with more cheap plastic things. The shower was the weakest one can take. The towels had seen better days.

We had no tea or coffee making facilities in our room, but we could prepare a Nespresso in the hall for EUR 1,50 per shot.

Every night we got back to a pitch dark house (and through the side gate); we did not feel welcomed. When we woke up in the morning to go down to breakfast all doors were closed, it felt like a dungeon of sorts.

We gather the hotel is mostly for package tourists (the sort of people who take food items from the buffet for their day). There is nothing wrong with being a package tourist at all, everyone makes their own choices, but it is simply not that what we were after.

Breakfast was fed in a crammed room, we did not get it at all, it is a massive house why would anyone squeeze their guests into a tiny breakfast room? Breakfast was not too bad: jam, fruit, cheese and pre-baked bread rolls and toast plus filter coffee.

When I checked-out, someone had made changes to the booking form I signed on the first day; the Lady of the hotel got upset, that I was not delighted about the fact someone made these changes after I signed it, she said her boss must have done it.

If they would not have promised so much on their website we surely would not have been so disappointed with our stay. It is peculiarly funny as what they rate 4stars these days.

We did not complain about anything at all, what should we have said to the Lady at the hotel? It would have been like: Hey, we hate your style of running a hotel. Can you please repaint and redecorate the room and buy proper beds, can you please refurbish the bath, can you please buy some usable towels and can you please use another breakfast room? Can you please build a reception where we can feel welcome and looked after? Can you please use fresh flowers or none at all? Can we please use the front door and live in a well-lit hotel for our stay?

CanMoragues, Propietario at Ca'n Moragues, responded to this reviewResponded 19 September 2013

Dear Mrs.

The Can Moragues Hotel management and all its staff regret that you didn´t have a pleasant stay. We work day-to-day to guarantee our guests the highest welfare and to exceed their expectations and for that we are sorry that in your case this hasn´t occurred.
With regard to your comments I would like to remind you the following aspects:

As you know, our check-in time is at 14:00 h. However, just as the check out time which is at 12:00, we try to be flexible with these hours for the best welfare of our guests. So if a client wishes to leave the room after 12:00 h, and the occupation allows it and the last client had left the room on time, he/she would be able to do it with no extra charge.
I also remind you that at the moment of your arrival there were only you and the receptionist at the reception desk. I do not understand why you categorize the office as crowded.
Our concept of home/hotel, which we have worked on since its conceiving, pursues that all those who visit us feel like guests at our/their house, that is why our reception desk is not a cold and distant counter but an area where our guests can sit and feel comfortable while we carry out the check-in process. In this way, expert architects and interior designers have conceived the decoration selecting the most valued pieces of the old house, combining them with beds, bathrooms and some touches of modern decoration to offer the highest comfort without losing its genuine character on which it is inspired.
The policy of the Can Moragues Hotel is to select our employees for their professional qualification and the aptitudes and attitudes toward the client not for his/her height . I ensure you that our employee´s height who you refer to is not an impediment to accomplish her tasks efficiently.
Our hotel is framed in an accommodation concept of “Boutique hotel” in which the guest feels comfortable with its services as well as with its decoration, this last one, on the other side, which we take care of with attention to detail and with which our clients decide, year after year to repeat their stay, feeling really comfortable as they let us know. We work with passion on details, however we are sorry that our decoration style and hotel concept aren´t in your acceptance level, although we respect it.
As I was telling you beforehand, being our hotel a hotel boutique, the illumination is also an important factor to get a warm and cozy atmosphere. On the other hand, the rooms without illumination are those that haven´t got any guest.
We regret that you dislike something that is precisely one of those things that our guests appreciate which is just our operation as a guest house where our clients are not only clients but much more: our guests, our customers. This means, among other things, that they have a key to get in and out of the establishment whenever they want to, with their own keys just as if they were at home. On the other hand, the main entrance is closed at a specific time to guarantee our guests and hotel security, having another door, the one that you mention, used as it was previously explained.
Just as I was telling you in the previous lines, we regret that you dislike our decoration. Perhaps if you had told us, we surely would have assigned you another room that would have suited your tastes and predilection. With regards to the towels, as well as the sheets, we have been concerned about their high quality. We will not mention their brand, but as you may have observed, they are from an outstanding brand. Many clients acquire them to take them home.
We consider that the Nespresso coffee maker that is located in the hall meets a basic need, however, we pleasantly accept your suggestion of a possible improvement, equipping the bedrooms with a coffee maker, that we will keep in mind. As you have seen, our clients have the option to go to the fridge and get whatever they want to, at a very good price, having themselves the control, which is one more evidence of the familiar operation, close and based on our guests trust .
I don´t know at what time you got up to have your breakfast but you may refer to the doors of the guests that were not awake yet. If you refer to common areas, perhaps it is about rooms in which there weren´t clients. However, none of these doors can be locked so if they were closed, you could have noticed that I can open them without any problem.
Actually this is not an “all included” hotel,
The hotel is mainly for package tourist ( the type of people that take away food from the buffet). I do not understand exactly what you mean saying this, you say it to look down on the guests and to compare them with the all included clients, that is why you talk about package clients and categorize them as low purchasing power clients, I suppose, not as exclusive which they are.

The breakfast we offer is made of fresh and high quality products such as, you say: homemade hams, fruit, all types of cold meat, a large range of freshly baked breads, yoghurts, Majorcan sausage, sweets and baked goods, tea, coffee, in short, a complete continental buffet. Furthermore, we make in the moment scrambled eggs or with bacon, or boiled eggs or an omelette, whenever the client wants it. We are sorry that you do not find the dining room´s size appropriated, but due to the number of bedrooms that the hotel has and the number of tables, we consider it appropriate. In fact, our guests have never had to wait, and all of them have their table available and ready when they come to have breakfast.
I reiterate our regrets for your disappointment but I ensure you that in our web we present an absolutely reliable information, as much in contents as in rates as in graphic contents. In fact, the comments of the majority of our guests show us that the hotel gains when you know it. Here, it would be interesting to know the rate that you have paid and make understood that on top of it the usual price of the bedroom is higher and the rate that you have paid is special ( the standard cost is 135 euros, taxes and breakfast included).

The house, set around a pretty courtyard with plunge pool, has been in the family for 300 years. It has been decorated and furnished in excellent taste. The public areas are a pleasure to spend time in. Breakfast, hot and cold, is good and really sets you up for the day. Park 200m away in a public car park. Perhaps a little mean not to offer free tea and coffee (there are no facilities for making in rooms). The staff, including tortoises Mariella and Lola, are all charming.

Room Tip: If you want a little space, do not choose room 6. Room 1 is a ground floor suite with french window...

It is a nice historic family property with a few rooms, more a guest house than a hotel.
We felt very confortable during the two nights that we spent here. Very cozy atmosphere.
The breakfast is good and most of the times (if weather allows it) is served in the terrace.
There is a public free parking with plenty space close by (less than 300 metres).
There is also a kind of shadowy refreshing pool (not a proper swimming pool) in the terrace.
We felt very much at home (we just missed our bad weather). : )

After having stayed in a mini-hotel room in Palma Ca'n Morgagues was a pleasant surprise. The owner's son checked us in, helped us with our bags, and showed us the hotel. We were about the only guests there. Our room was spacious and had a comfortable bed and a big bathroom. You are really left to help yourself in the kitchen or salon where there is a bar. We wanted a nice cold drink as it was very hot still. I went to the kitchen in search of ice but no luck. I called to see if there was some hidden away but no chance. "We ran out on Friday and I haven't run out for more." Arta is a small town, nothing is more than 5 minutes away. I was a little surprised after he had been so helpful and friendly. So in the end it was warm red wine in Martini glasses. Breakfast the next morning was great as we apparently had the place to ourselves. Despite no ice I would recommend this hotel, just let them know before hand you expect ice if thats what you like!

Very clean and well-equipped hotel run by a charming family. Good location near all the main sights and a short walk from the main drag (with restaurants). We visited in March so were not able to use all the facilities (including pool) but recommend nonetheless. They also kindly posted my jacket home which I left in a cupboard!

We stayed in Room 1 for four nights, a ground floor Junior Suite of a good size and reasonably appointed in a lovely old building. We were provided with an acceptable continental style breakfast each day that appeared to be geared more for the other residents, all of whom were German. Much of this part of Mallorca is visited by Germans and German is the second language spoken. Arta is a lovely town riddled with narrow one way streets and difficult on-street parking but Ca'n Moragues is only a very short walk from a free car park. Our hosts, treated us very well and were most helpful with such matters as directions etc. The free wifi access worked well despite the thick walls of the building. There are always some things not quite right. Ours were no towel replacement one day - an old one and the bath mat were taken but not replaced. Also, the bathroom accessories were sparce - a bar of soap and some gel and lotion, both in large dispensers. I shall review the restaurants visited separately. Overall a lovely stay and we would definitely return!
