Spent at week at Son Menut on a pre booked program through a UK agent.
Transfer from the airport spot in.
Arrival at the location easy but receptionist in the evening didn't speak english so couldn't ask any questions. Just shown the room and told dinner at 7pm. Nothing more.
The food i'm glad to say was excellent - you may struggle on the set/ all inclusve menu is you dont eat fish or meat but the quality is excellent. Drinks were not included in my package but they are very cheap.
The rooms are basic - the beds are ok and recommend you turn the fridge off at night or it rumbles throughout!
Agree with other reviewers that a bar or lounge area is needed to relax in the evenings.
Please note the hotel is in the middle of nowhere - nearest shop and town is 5km away...it's extremely isolated....
There is a spa on site but even to use the jacuzzi and sauna you have to book 24 hours ahead as it is turned off..
As with other reviewers, i was the only english person and the place is predominately german...although i understand german, by the end of the week, i had had enough of that!!
You also have to get lucky with the other guests...i was on my rides with a 70 year old lady so there was lmited conversation!! I would certainly have enjoyed it more if i had been paired with a younger group.
I was on a trail program which included 5 days of riding - approx 5 hours a day.
The horses on the whole looked well cared for - well fed etc and appeared strong on the rides...again as someone else mentioned,if yuo are used to the uk way with riding, you will be horrified by the cantering on concrete etc but you have to get on with it..
one day i didn't enjoy as there were 8 riders on the trail amd the standard of riding left much to be desired. Again i had to ignore how some people were treating their horses and just concentrate on my own ride. That day all riders except me were german which meant the day was carried out mostly in german which was hard work!
The other days there were 3 - 4 of us which was far more enjoyable and calm. Note that the guide will just ride at his pace regardless of how slow the rest of the horses are - i had a faster horse, but it left riders at the back constantly trotting to catch up.
Agree the tack left a lot to be desired too. Held together by string in places and one day i got what our group called 'the toture saddle' which is frankly the kost uncomfortable thing have ever ridden on and i still have knee pain!!
All in all the trip was fun but if i were to return i wouldn't do a full week of trail rides. Perhaps 2 day rides and 3 dressage days.
