“'We booked'”
Reviewed 12 April 2014

We stayed in Exmouth then visited Budleigh Salterton, found this little plaice off the main road, but we had to book, so we returned at the agreed time, which was well worth the wait.
I had the luxury Fish Pie & Calamari in fine bread crumbs , maureen had the traditional Cod & Chips which we both enjoyed tremendously.
If you are ever in Budleigh you must go to Chapel Street and sample the cuisine.
They also do vegetarian.
Last orders taken 1:30pm.
There is also free WiFi.

“PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST .... IN THE WEST”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

This small unassuming fish and chip restaurant (and take-away) just off the main street of Budleigh Salterton serves local and the freshest fish you're ever likely to get. The 'specials' menu is particularly inventive and uses the catches of the day. We had the 'daily deal' that gave a taster starter (whitebait), a main course (more than sufficient for us), ice cream and tea for about the same price as a large cod & chips. The chips are just as they should be and the service is helpful and friendly. They even serve wines and beers - And they withstood the challenge of our 3 and 5-year old grandchildren. What more can you ask for at the seaside?

“Dropped in for a Meal”
Reviewed 6 April 2014

Stayed in a local B&B and wanted a light meal in the evening so went into the Premier Café which had a selection of fish and other dishes. Our meals were good sized portions, well cooked and served hot. Friendly staff

“Super Fish & Chip Restuarant (who haven't forgotten the vegetarians !)”
Reviewed 3 April 2014

Visited Budleigh Salterton last week (last week of March) for a long stay.

We ate twice in the Premier Cafe, during our stay as it was so good (and it was our first time of eating there).

Mum enjoyed the traditional Plaice and Chips, I am a strict vegetarian (so had the filo parcels with brie and chutney) and on 2nd visit, enjoyed the pasty.

Really lovely friendly ladies serving in the restuarant, tables and uniforms very clean.

If there was anything to comment on was that the chips could have been a little hotter and I did mention this to the waitress - but it's not a complaint. They were hot, just could have been hotter. Possibly had been plated up before the fish/filo parcels were ready.

The salad was lovely that we shared, as was the olive and flatbread for starters - yum !

We'll be back and keep up the good work - lovey venue !

Do book as its only a small place and it does get very busy.

Yes you do have to wait for the food - but thats the difference in quality, its cooked fresh to order.

“Don't bother”
Reviewed 21 March 2014

I recently visited this cafe with my husband, there were 5 other people in the cafe but we still had to wait for 25mins for our food which was incomplete when it arrived we only ordered cod & chips & peas on one meal (after all it is a chip shop). The quality of the food was ok but the quantity not, very small portions for extortionist prices, one thing did stand out though if you're a regular you have your meal served even when your ordered is taken after other people have ordered, I wouldn't recommend this cafe to anyone. The fault did not lie with the waitress she was very apologetic, it was in the time it took to cook the meal.

I do agree that 25 minutes seems a long time for fish and chips when we are quiet, I would expect 15 mins.
I am sorry that the peas didn't come with your meal - a new member of staff, the waitress whom you praised, simply forgot and immediate action was taken to rectify the situation so i think your comment a little harsh.

As for your statement with regard to quantity and price, is £8.90 really extortionist considering that you sit down in a warm and well presented restaurant ,have waitress service, get free ketchup and homemade tartare sauce and can have as many chips as you want?
