We have eaten here several times (taster menu - superb and original combination flavours and presentation) and this time we had the regular evening menu and stayed over.
My standards are pretty high (5 star and boutique hotels only) but there is not much to fault here. The service (waiting and reception) is personal and professional, the room was lovely (Room 1) with original classic furniture (none of the mass produced cheap rubbish you find in many, even expensive, hotels). My only comment would be no tea, coffee (or my particular preference hot choc) in the room so you have to order it which, given the price of the room, should probably be included.
The food on the sunday night menu was tasty (and i loved the variety of home made bread) - the chef is quite experimental!!
All in all if you want a very pleasant little hotel to stay in while exploring this part of the country you cannot go wrong at the crown (the sunday night offer is good value).
However, I would visit just for the food (particularly the taster menu which I thought was better than a number of Mich star restuarants that i have paid twice the price for!)More
