“Very Average - verging on shabby”
Reviewed 28 January 2008

Nobody on reception - had to go into bar to locate a member of staff. This was the case throughout the whole 5 day stay. Room was shabby.
TV did not work until last day of stay.
Three flights of stairs to get case up with no help.
Coffee cups were not properly cleaned each day, just rinsed with water in the bathroom sink by cleaner.
Furniture in bad state of repair.

Stayed October 2007

my wife needed to go for an operation in royal haslar hospital this year. she was due to stay in hospital for 4 days so we booked in to the anglesey so i had somewhere comfortable and warm. the staff were so so nice to me, the room was just what i needed after spending all day sitting on hospital chairs and the food was so nice. after my wife came out of hospital we both stayed there for an extra 2 days before going back home.

the hotel is such a nice place to stay. the staff were there to help me and the propreitor rae helped me in anyway he could. he even let me and my wife have the same room as i was staying in all week. i will be coming back down next year for a holiday with my wife and definitely will be staying here

thankyou all to everyone at the anglesey

  • Liked — the staff and the way everyone made it a warm friendly environment

On arrival we had to climb 3 flights of stairs as there is no lift. The bedding was stained and breakfast was cold on both days. I requested a double room and we were given an executive and were charged accordingly. I think the cost of the room was too high for what we got. When we complained about breakfast it was sorted out immediately by the owner who was very friendly but the manager had an attitude!!! Wouldnt reccomend this hotel.,

Was looking forward to our stay here but on seeing the state of the sign outside and the floor on entry started to set alarm bells ringing. The terrible stench of chip fat as you walk in makes you heave. The sevice on checking in was extremely poor. The state of the premisies on the inside isnt much better either. We were even told that a disturbed night's sleep is common here due to the fact that there is a bar on site - great!
The breakfast was dire. The serviettes had fatty finger stains all over them. The quality of the cooked breakfast was appalling and the bread was stale. I couldnt let my children eat anything there - especially not the cheap yoghurts which contained artificial sweetners!
My husband and I were extremely saddened that anyone could run a hotel this way and would never come here again. A very unpleasant experience.
We would certainly not recommend this hotel to anyone

There's nothing like the smell of chip fat to welcome you to a hotel. Apart from a sweltering room with stains on the bed that is.

Things didn't get better at night. Drunks piling out of the downstairs bar/restaurant regularly interupted our slumber.

Still, all would be forgotten if service was bright and cheery. Unfortunately, helpful staff at breakfast seemed out of their depth and things got worse at checkout.

You'd think you would get some eye contact from staff when you pay them £185 for your two nights. Not here you don't, just a couple of grunts and a profanity when the guy reailsed he'd made a mistake on someone else's booking.

I'm sure some folk enjoy the nautical old world charm of this place but I've had far better stays in travelodges and premier inns at half the price.
