“A cheeky glass of wine and chips ...”
Reviewed 20 May 2013

Popped into the Old Lodge on Saturday 18th May, for a cheeky glass of wine or 2 with a friend..we sampled a little bowl of the home cooked chips which just hit the spot.

The lunch and dinner menu looks scrumptious and I will definately be returning with other friends

Rebecca who I believe is the new manageress of the hotel was very friendly, a pleasure to see smiling staff.

Hi Sumpysaz - wine and chips - a delectable choice, and one I try often. Rebecca is a welcome addition to our family, and has received glowing reports, including yours. Come for dinner soon!

My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of staying at the Old Lodge earlier this month. We were both pleasantly surprised because on our last trip in 2010 the hotel was in disarray and facing closure. The current owner Mike and his team made us feel welcome and looked after us. The staff were friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. We had an Old Lodge high tea which was amazing! We are looking forward to returning in August to support the Old Lodge, and trust the people of Alverstoke will get behind Mike and his team and help support this wonderful venue.

The hotel was beautiful, clean and welcoming! The staff bent over backwards to make us comfortable. We look forward to returning! The food was excellent. Breakfast was wonderful, and the best coffee!

The public areas were very comfortable and welcoming. Drinks at the bar were great, and the weather was perfect for the outdoor seating!

We had our daughters18th b'day dinner party here, and couldnt have wished for more. We chose this venue due to the modern, classy, boutique style decor. We had use of the lounge room which was prepped just right , on arrival the staff were very attentive which continued all evening even though busy in the restaurant. The food for 26 guests arrived hot , on time and beautifully presented. Large portion sizes , handmade chunky chips - heavenly and value for money. A nice touch was the use of a hotel room for the evening for the comfort of our 4 yr old . The room was immaculate, bathroom gleaming, bed and furnishings pristine . In all I loved the atmosphere of this quality hotel. I am very fussy and particular and I was very happy, and will deffinately be back again soon. Well done Mike and team for creating a much needed high standard venue in this area.

This could be a brilliant hotel but the management is very amateurish. The hotel needs a good manager - not a property developer to run it. The staff are friendly and helpful but not sure an ex navy chef is the right choice for head chef - time will tell! Rooms are very comfortable and clean. Breakfast is really good but no menu is provided so you have to guess what is on offer - not ideal. Room prices are on the high side £89 to £135 is a bit excessive.

The hotel was recently closed for 2-3 years - hope it succeeds but have my doubts.

We chose the Old Lodge to have a family lunch to celebrate my son's 18th birthday. There were 17 of us & we were accommodated in what was the bar but is now a lounge. We had a traditional roast and chose the option of buying joints. The meat was carved for us & served on woden platters with the veg coming seperately. The food was very good & there was plenty of it! The hotel was very busy with it being Easter Sunday too so the efforts of the kitchen team and front of house staff were excellent. Service is very friendly and informal which might not suite everybody, but it did bring a nice informal air to the experience. The old lodge has a good selection of beers and the house wines are really very good. The venue has struggled a bit over the last few years so we would like to thank Mike & his team for a great lunch & wish you luck in your business venture!

Hi Rocketdog - glad you had such a great time for your son's birthday and that in a small way we were able to make it more special. Our meat joint options are very popular and good value for money. Hope to join you for your next celebration!

Rang the Old Lodge to try and book Sunday lunch and spoke to a man who was very abrupt and put the phone down on us. Went elsewhere and will continue to do so. Customer Service may have improved since then but first impressions count.

Sorry you are unhappy with our telephone manor, I do believe this was a very busy Sunday, it is often advisable to book in advance as we are quite popular. I hope you come and try us in the future and rate the complete experience.
