Had our work Christmas Party at the Old Lodge this year. 30 rowdy, demanding partygoers expecting great food and great entertainment - we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely amazing - the best 3 course christmas dinner we've ever had (we've been doing this for quite a few years now !!) and a constant flow of red, white and rose - we even got jugs of cocktails made for us, which were gorgeous. There was another larger party that night also, but the food was delivered promptly and was piping hot. The waitress and waiter (Lauren and Jamie) were very professional - nothing was too much trouble for them. The Manager and even the Chef came to check frequently that everything was OK. It really was an excellent night. Already booked again for next year. Thank you everyone at the Old Lodge for all your hard work, it was really appreciated. A great night was had by all xx

Christmas was very busy for us (thank Heaven!) and we had so many parties to see to. We are only as good as our staff, and they certainly seem to have done you proud!

Stayed here a few weeks ago as I was down in Gosport visiting family. Shared a room with my boyfriend and my father had a single room. My father has quite bad OCD and had been moaning all the way up on the train from London about how he wasn't going to be comfortable. He was very pleased once we were there with the cleanliness. The rooms are newly refurbished and decorated to a brilliant standard. The beds are very comfortable. The shower was also a real power shower so you felt nice and clean afterwards. My father had a bath and a shower in his room. Our room was slightly smaller but very very cosy. The building is wonderful I think it is a listed building and the hallways and bar/restaurant areas are immaculate and wonderfully done up. The hotel is very pretty both from the inside and outside. When we first arrived we were made to fee very welcome and greeted in such a warm way by the people at the bar/reception. Breakfast was brilliant and you got a lot of it. the chef came out and we had a little chat with him, he was lovely. For the price I think it is amazing. We were so pleased that the premier inn had been booked out otherwise we would have never even known about this hotel as it is cheaper and a much nicer experience. We will be going back again in February. As it wasn't busy on the day we had to check out they said we could have our rooms for the rest of the day free of charge which was lovely. The staff are so laid back and friendly. The hotel has a real family feel. It's quiet and located a few minutes from the sea front. We booked and paid for our rooms by ringing them up and paying over the phone it was done in a few minutes and the woman on the other end of the phone was so friendly it made me confident that it would be a nice stay before we had even arrived. Truly a little Gem in Gosport!

Room Tip: We only saw two rooms but they were both perfect. All the rooms have recently been refurbished so I...

On the 15th November it was my daughter's celebration of her 18th birthday. All of the family, inc, extended family live in Alverstoke and Gosport. We live an hour or so from them and we wanted everybody to come to the dinner we had planned - a total of 13 people, adults and children. We contacted Natasha, the proprietor, at the Old Lodge Hotel in Alverstoke. We booked a room, exclusive from the restaurant, 15.00hrs until late. Natasha helped all afternoon to decorate the room and plan the tables and chairs. The menu available, including vegetarian choices, was sent to all invited persons with a week's notice. On the day of the dinner, 16th November, the meal was superb and Natasha and her staff could not have been more helpful. All 13 meals were delivered together, hot, well presented and not one person had any negative comments. The evening was superb. I cannot praise 'Tasha enough. Her attention was faultless and could be regarded as competitive with any local hotel and restaurant with star qualifications. We did not use the hotel's accommodation as my wife, the birthday daughter, her younger sister and me had local accommodation with family. We will not hesitate to use The Old Lodge for casual use of the restaurant, or book the room for a private event. Well done , 'Tasha, a superb evening. Look forward to seeing you again.

Having driven over 200 miles it was great to be able to have a nice cool beer! . The atmosphere was just as required, relaxing! The standard room with ensuite, was clean and comfortable. An excellent dinner was had in the main restaurant and the price was reasonable. There was a wide choice of breakfast, with the excellent full English not for the faint hearted! All the staff were friendly and very efficient.

Living in Alverstoke, Gosport means that I and my wife can lunch at the hotel on a frequent basis. We have always found the food excellent in both equality and value. It's Table D'Hote is very good again in both quality and value at £10.50 for two courses. The staff are friendly and efficient without being intrusive and it has always been a pleasure to spend time in this lovingly refurbished hotel whether it be just for a drink or meal. I would recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: Book well in advance or as much as possible as this hotel will only gain in popularity.

Most of my wonderful family have been living in Alverstoke for many years, some have left and come back, but we all used to drink and dine at The Old Lodge. we loved the staff, the layout and they where always very accommodating, We couldnt wait to get back in there when they reopened.

We've been back a few times now since reopening, hoping are next experience will be better than the last, but sadly they have failed every time.
I find i am always left waiting at the bar while they serve locals first, sat and watched my dear nan wait to long to buy a drink, until i went and asked her to sit down while i got her a drink, not good !

The food there always feel likes its been either rushed or not put together with care.
From what i can tell the bar manager is a young dark haired girl whos people skills are much to be desired.
I've been told on many occasions by her " You cant have a Peroni glass !! " very rudly and I've never asked for one, just a pint of. she is always hugging locals or going to sit with them, when there are people waiting for service, maybe i am wrong and she doesnt work there?

My whole family are all very sad that are found memories of eating out and drinking in this once wonderfull place is now gone for good.

We have all started going to the Alverbank which is a much much better standard of service.

We find that The Old Lodge has now become a breeding ground for people that feel the need to talk about there wealth.

Sorry will never return, well unless new managment is put in place

As a regular user of the old lodge for so many years I find it unusual that you do not recall the new layout is in fact the same as it had been for the previous 40 years apart from the previous 5 years when the business did not preform very well and went bankrupt. The drinks are served to the best of our ability in the appropriate glasses but due to our popularity this sometimes is not the case. I would appreciate constructive criticism of the food but it would be helpful if your comments were not so generalised. I encourage a!l my staff to be welcoming to all customers whether they be locals or not. We are a Hotel/Restaurant and not in the business of sensoring what people talk about. Please enjoy your future visits to the Alverbank.
