“Wet weekend in Gosport”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

Having stayed here about six years ago we were expecting the worst, we would not have booked at all except for the fact that is near the venue that we were attending, however, it has improved considerably since then.
After a couple of minutes sorting the room heating we were fine, OK so the window wasn't double glazed but we come from an age when none were so no probs.
Yes the hotel could do with a better reception area but in a place this size it would probably not be economically viable.
Breakfast was excellent, the chef coming in early on a Sunday morning to accommodate us.
Overall we had a good stay not withstanding the weather and will be back again for any further family events.

Thank you for your comments -especially as you had visited before under the previous ownership. We have a difficult position in the Hotel trade as we have to balance size with trade. We are stuck with the limitations of the Hotel's physical size, and have to accept that without a dedicated reception, from time to time there will be obstacles to overcome, but we are pleased that you were pleased with your stay.

Firstly this is advertised as a Hotel I beg to differ!! there is no Hotel Reception to meet Guests and to give information..we had to go to the Bar which was packed and eventually an Employee came..we were shown to the room we had booked but unfortunately we could not enter the room as the door could not be unlocked!!apparantley they do have trouble with this lock..however it had not been attended to up to this point.the room was basic and yet was a Premier Room..the room looks out onto a main road and is in a Residential Road so those in their bedrooms could look into ours..that in self is ok however there were no nets or blinds at our window ..the window in our Room was the old sash type which needed attention..as it was windy that particular night the window just noisy and kept banging which kept me awake most of the night..the Room itself had no Visitors Book therefore we had not a clue what time Breakfast was what time the Restaurant closes no information on a point of Contact should anyone need help during the night no guide to what Channels were available to watch on the Television the pillows on the bed were old and there were no Pillow Protectors and no Matress Protector..as these Rooms are a £100 per night I think it was very very poor. When one eats in a Restaurant that is not that cheap the least you expect is a TableCloth!! tthere were small candles on the table that were never lite.. the Food however was very good and we would eat there again..as a Hotel this needs some tweeking for sure.,this is really a Bar with rooms upstairs..it seemed full of locals getting drunk and they were very noisy and very drunk. The Breakfast was great and we cannot fault the food..however the owner needs to rethink the Hotel bit,,one more thing our Room had nowhere to put our Cases other than the floor .We would never stay there again but cannot fault the food and the owners wife who virtually did everything..

Thank you for your comments we do take positive feedback very seriously as a result we are currently producing information books to go in each room. For a small boutique hotel of this size it is not viable to have a separate reception and bar, I can only appoligise that we are popular and busy. The night you stayed it was very windy and this being a 220 year old building grade || listed, there is only so much you can modernise the building within conservation guildlines, as I recall we asked you for a breakfast time which you gave us and I am glad you enjoyed your meals.

On the last two Sundays that I have had to travel abroad, my wife and I have had lunch at The Old Lodge before my taxi arrived to take me to Heathrow. The food and service were excellent and just the ticket when having to leave.

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night as a belated Christmas as my husband was away over the Christmas period. The staff were amazing from the start. They arranged the room with Xmas decorations and provided refreshments in the room. We had dinner at the hotel. The menu had plenty of variety and the meal was cooked to perfection. The staff could not do enough for us. We will definitely be returning! Thank you Mike and Natasha!!!

Had our work Christmas Party at the Old Lodge this year. 30 rowdy, demanding partygoers expecting great food and great entertainment - we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely amazing - the best 3 course christmas dinner we've ever had (we've been doing this for quite a few years now !!) and a constant flow of red, white and rose - we even got jugs of cocktails made for us, which were gorgeous. There was another larger party that night also, but the food was delivered promptly and was piping hot. The waitress and waiter (Lauren and Jamie) were very professional - nothing was too much trouble for them. The Manager and even the Chef came to check frequently that everything was OK. It really was an excellent night. Already booked again for next year. Thank you everyone at the Old Lodge for all your hard work, it was really appreciated. A great night was had by all xx

Christmas was very busy for us (thank Heaven!) and we had so many parties to see to. We are only as good as our staff, and they certainly seem to have done you proud!

Stayed here a few weeks ago as I was down in Gosport visiting family. Shared a room with my boyfriend and my father had a single room. My father has quite bad OCD and had been moaning all the way up on the train from London about how he wasn't going to be comfortable. He was very pleased once we were there with the cleanliness. The rooms are newly refurbished and decorated to a brilliant standard. The beds are very comfortable. The shower was also a real power shower so you felt nice and clean afterwards. My father had a bath and a shower in his room. Our room was slightly smaller but very very cosy. The building is wonderful I think it is a listed building and the hallways and bar/restaurant areas are immaculate and wonderfully done up. The hotel is very pretty both from the inside and outside. When we first arrived we were made to fee very welcome and greeted in such a warm way by the people at the bar/reception. Breakfast was brilliant and you got a lot of it. the chef came out and we had a little chat with him, he was lovely. For the price I think it is amazing. We were so pleased that the premier inn had been booked out otherwise we would have never even known about this hotel as it is cheaper and a much nicer experience. We will be going back again in February. As it wasn't busy on the day we had to check out they said we could have our rooms for the rest of the day free of charge which was lovely. The staff are so laid back and friendly. The hotel has a real family feel. It's quiet and located a few minutes from the sea front. We booked and paid for our rooms by ringing them up and paying over the phone it was done in a few minutes and the woman on the other end of the phone was so friendly it made me confident that it would be a nice stay before we had even arrived. Truly a little Gem in Gosport!

Room Tip: We only saw two rooms but they were both perfect. All the rooms have recently been refurbished so I...
