Paul & Gerry are fantastic hosts. We stayed for two nights and had the family join us for Christmas Day lunch. The food and atmosphere were fabulous. How they do it, in view of the fact that neither are in the best of health, is beyond us. Well done!!! We look forward to many more stays in this beautiful Inn, so full of olde world charm and hospitality.

We stayed at The Rhydspence Inn last weekend, a treat booked by the family. We don't usually review, but when we went on to book for another break later in the year, we saw a negative review. Our experience was somewhat different. We had a lovely room with views across the Golden Valley to the Black Mountains. It's a 700 year old inn and Paul offered an additional heater to keep the room cosy. I asked him about the slippers... He explained that he had experienced nerve pain but needed to ensure that the bar was covered. He was presented smartly with shirt and tie, so I think the slippers were ok - this is not only their business but their home! Gerry's food was wholesome and homemade, just what was needed and, Lindsey, the waitress, never stopped smiling and was polite at all times. We are returning.......!!!!

The new owners would benefit from a crash course in improving their communication skills, customer service, and overall style of management. Trying to 'wing' it on the back of the hotel's previous good reputation is a disaster waiting to happen, as we discovered to our cost!
Shame, because it is a beautiful old building; but relying on 'olde worlde charm' won't compensate for shoddy, inept service. Neither will seeing the owner wandering around in a pair of slippers whilst seeing to his guests!!

We had a lovely weekend at the Rhydspence Inn, a real olde worlde building with all modern home comforts, super food and a big log fire. The website gives the details of its history, and the landlord will happily give you a special tour. Set in beautiful surroundings close to the hills. Recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Rhydspence Inn. This was an early Valnetine's weekend for us and we couldn't have picked a better venue. The Inn is a wonderful old building set in stunning countryside. A gorgeous log fire in the Bar and great food. As if all this wasn't enough the thing that made our weekend was the welcome received from Paul, the Landlord, his staff and the Inn's regulars. We could not have wished for a more friendly atmosphere. The kind of service and attention we received was second to none and is something that is so rare. We will definitely be making a return visit very soon.

..We have stayed here many times and it was great to see how the new owners are bringing the Inn back to its former glory. They have achieved such a lot in a short time. The food is delicious and the quality of the locally sourced produce excellent and enhanced by Gerry's cooking. There is a good choice for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. One of the best steaks I have ever eaten. There is so much to do in such a beatiful area but it is very difficult to drag oneself away from the comfort of the roaring fire listening to the friendly chat in the bar.It is still as Kilvert described it in 1873 "On the border by the black stripped timber house, the Rhydspence Inn, the weeping willow stilldrooped like a green shower, and the boundary brook of Cwmrafor came leaping and foaming down the beautiful goats' dingle under the green shadow of the sunlit weeping willows and silver birches swiftly flashing."

This was our 4th visit to this wonderful Inn and the first time meeting Paul and Geraldine.
They work so hard to make your stay a pleasure and we were not dissapointed. Home cooked food by Geraldine was delicious, eaten in the bar next to the fire. Perfect for a rainy December evening. Paul is very knowledgable about the history of the Inn and we loved seeing his prize geese. We will definately be returning and wish them every sucess.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1 which has four poster bed. Very comfortable and romantic.
