Lovely little pub with great local ale and freshly cooked pub meals.
Recommended they go for the home cooked pie.

“Average sums it up...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

This is a review of the pub and food at the Milecastle Inn.
We ate here two evenings while staying at the Bridge House B&B, mainly because it's the only eating place within walking distance of the B&B.
It's in a great location, near Cawfields Quarry and Hadrian's Wall and there's a small garden to sit in if the weather allows.
Inside, there's a small restaurant area and you can eat in the bar as well. It's all rather cramped and gives the impression of being stuck in the 1980s. I'm sure they could make better use of the space.
The food was plentiful, but both uninspired and uninspiring. My partner's goat cheese/vegetable bake was OK but nothing special. My sausages were tasty, but the accompanying vegetables were rather 'canteen' style.
The second visit, we had the Sunday roast - again ample portions although I felt one roast potato was a little mean.
The staff were friendly and it's obviously quite popular with local people, so the general ambiance was good.

We visited this pub several times whilst staying in the area. The food and hospitality was excellent and we look forward to returning in the future.

“Lovely little inn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

Very good hearty pub food and good value. The inn was warm and comfortable and nice ambience. Lovely place for cosy dinner on a cold night, especially after trudging along Hadrian's wall.

“Not what it says on the tin!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

This pub was recommended for it's great food. The food was far from great and I would say everything we ordered came straight from the frozen section at a local supermarket. The Steak and Kidney pie was a typical butchers shop pie that was more Kidney than steak. Great little pub with friendly staff and clientele range was families to pensioners so a nice atmosphere. For a pub that has an Egon Ronay rating on the wall we were very disappointed.
