“Gorgeous setting in the shadow of Hadrian's Wall”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

Anne and Martin very welcoming, Tea' coffee and homemade cake offered on arrival, very comfortable room, gorgeous very filling breakfast. Anne and Martin very knowledgeable about the local area, lots of top class recommendations of places to visit. And their very own resident Red Squirrel which feeds just outside the kitchen window! Very relaxing stay, thoroughly recommended!

Room Tip: Have stayed in both letting rooms, both very quiet and extremely comfortable.

We recently stayed for one night with Ann & Martin. The B& B is located just outside the attractive town of Haltwhistle. We were greeted with a warm welcome, coffee and home made cake. There are beautiful walks on the doorstep - Hadrian's wall can be reached within a few minutes on foot but it is equally possible to walk to a number of local restaurants / hostelries. The accommodation is of a very high standard. We stayed in the twin room which is large, well appointed and actually has two 4 foot beds ensuring a blissful night's sleep. Breakfast was terrific - we particularly liked the freshly baked loaves for 'do it yourself' toast! We definitely intend to return to Broomshaw for a more extended visit to a lovely part of the world.

We stayed two nights and loved this place! We would definitely recommend it. Anne and Martin are wonderful hosts and nothing is too much trouble. The location is excellent for visiting Hadrians Wall and there are nice pubs within walking distance. Our room was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious.

We loved Broomshaw Hill Farm! The only reason I think it could be rated so low overall is that it's relatively new and doesn't have a lot of reviews.

The room was beautiful, and it’s in a good location for exploring Hadrian’s Wall (even on foot, if you're up for a hike).

The innkeepers were amazing - they went above-and-beyond! I won't divulge all the extras so they're not committed to provide them in the future, but they really took care of us! They made sure we had a good local map, and talked fairly extensively about our transportation options. They were incredibly helpful and service-oriented.

For breakfast, we even had options other than the Full English Breakfast that’s so common to B&Bs (it was nice to have an omelet for a change).

My sister and I stayed here during a month long backpacking trip around the UK. Broomshaw (and Haltwhistle) was a perfect place to stay to catch some of the highlights of Hadrian's Wall, with the Roman Army Museum, Vindolanda and Housesteads either within walking distance or easily accessible via the AD122 bus. Broomshaw itself is located ~1-1.5 km from the Haltwhistle rail station on a very quiet road right next to the burn, making for the most peaceful sleep we had on the trip. The walk from the town centre is scenic and only took us 25 mins with our packs on. Our room (Greenlee) had the great character of the old farmhouse and was clean, very comfortable and cosy. The en suite shower was spacious and had great water pressure (a problem we had run into with other hotels/inns on the trip). Breakfast was very generous, with plenty of options for any diet, and Anne makes the fluffiest (and tastiest!) omelettes I have ever had. We were also always met with delicious cakes and refreshments when we arrived back at the B&B.

What really makes Broomshaw special are Anne and Martin. You will be hard pressed to find better hosts in the whole of England. They were on hand with plenty of maps and guidebooks to help us get the most of our stay, and seemed genuinely interested in hearing how our day went. They provided a ride for us on a couple of occasions and gave us maps and the bus schedule to help us get around. Even in the midst of a little flash flood, they stayed attentive to us and Anne went out of her way to find rain boots for my sister to wear.

Broomshaw was our favourite place on the trip - I highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Try the Black Bull for dinner in Haltwhistle. It has a friendly atmosphere and has good (if a tad gr...

We would certainly recommmend this B & B.
Because of its magnificent location and good, comfortable, very clean
room, but most of all for the very warm welcome by Anne with tea and cakes indeed and the delicious breakfasts Martin made us.
We felt that they genuinely liked to help and advice us about where to go and what to visit.
We really had a wonderful time.

Stayed here with a small group of friends - Anne and Martin were very helpful in accommodating our needs and kindly provided surprise cake on our return from walking. The rooms were lovely - clean, comfortable, well-appointed and with everything you'd expect. The surroundings are beautiful (particularly the little river opposite) and some of the nicest stretches of Hadrian's Wall are easily reachable on foot. Slept peacefully and woke up to a fabulous (and extensive) breakfast. Had a really great weekend - would strongly recommend.
