“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014 via mobile

We stayed at Ashcroft Guest House in late May 2014. In all our 30-day travels about Britain, Ashcroft Guest House might be the most pleasant place we stayed. This is due in very large part to the efforts of the hosts, Geoff and Christine, who maintain a beautiful home, guest rooms, and extensive garden. They serve a delicious breakfast and provide comfortable rooms with lovely appointments. Both hosts have the knack for making each guest feel as though s/he is their only care. The pictures you see on their web site, on Trip Advisor, on Rick Steves do not lie. If anything, pictures fall short of conveying the true beauty and freshness of the Guest House and Haltwhistle area. The views of the surrounding hills are sublime. Local pubs around the corner serve very good food in a fun atmosphere. The Main Street is lovely with many small shops. Sainsbury's is nearby. Haltwhistle and Ashcroft Guest House are very much worth a trip north for serenity, history, comfort, tranquility. It is hard to conceive that you could be disappointed.

We stayed at Ashcroft House with friends last weekend and had a fantastic time. We were treated to immaculate rooms and a great breakfast by fabulous hosts Geoff and Christine. Ashcroft is the ideal place to base yourselves at whilst visiting Hadrian's Wall and the surrounding area. We had a great time and would recommend it strongly.

We had a wonderful stay at Ashcroft House after visiting Hadrian's Wall. The house itself is splendid. Our room was lovely, spacious and beautifully furnished. The ensuite bathroom was large and modern. Our hosts, Geoff and Christine, and their staff were warm and welcoming. The attention to detail was very apparent. Breakfast was delicious.

Geoff is an award winning gardener and his gardens are gorgeous beyond description. We thoroughly enjoyed walking around in them and taking pictures, even though our photos don't begin to do it justice.

On our 3 1/2 week trip to the UK, we stayed in many lovely hotels and B&B's. This was one of our favorites and we highly recommend it.

We have just returned from a ten night stay and enjoyed every minute.
Geoff, Christine and the staff were welcoming, friendly and also had a great sense of humour.
Everything about this guest house was superb, from our spacious comfortable room and excellent breakfast to the fantastic gardens.
We highly recommend Ashcroft and will definitely be returning for another holiday.

We stayed three nights here and enjoyed every minute. Clean, comfortable, beautiful room with a gorgeous view; wonderful shower and towel warmer in a generous bathroom with a big window that opened; extremely comfy four poster bed; large, elegant breakfast room with prompt and cheerful service and perfectly prepared, delicious breakfasts. But the two best things about Ashcroft Manor are the PEOPLE - both the owners, Christine and Geoff, and their staff could not have been kinder, and the GARDEN - a huge exquisite garden lovingly tended by Geoff with many plantings that delight the eye and create a haven for song birds. Anyone looking for a perfect retreat or just a lovely place to stay while seeing Hadrian's wall will find it at this b+b.

Room Tip: Lots of options.. Ask for what you prefer.

Haltwhistle is the perfect place to base yourself should you wish to visit Hadrian's wall and associated sites. And Ashcroft Guest House is the perfect place in which to stay.
The Guest House is 5 star in every sense. Geoff and Christine are perfect hosts. The house is very attractive and set in gardens worthy of the National Trust! The rooms are beautifully presented and as clean as could be. The breakfasts are a credit to all concerned. All in all, the prefect place to stay.

We honestly didn't expect too much, having booked late and not researched accommodations near Haltwhistle much, but our stay at the Ashcroft was just fabulous. Geoff and Christine were welcoming and easygoing, gave us plenty of useful information to get us underway to visit Hadrian's Wall the following day, and were truly enjoyable people. The house and gardens were spectacularly lovely, we enjoyed a far too brief walk around at sunset. If we are lucky enough to visit another time, we will arrive earlier to spend a bit more time relaxing there.
I can't end the review without commenting on breakfast. It was delicious. There were plenty of things to choose from, and I had smoked salmon and eggs with fried mushrooms. It was one of my best breakfasts during our entire 3 weeks in the UK (I generally don't even like eggs). Thanks G & C!

Room Tip: I don't think you can get a bad room at the Ashcroft.
