Haltwhistle is a superb base from which to explore everything the North has to offer - the Lake District, Carlisle, Hadrian's Wall, Vindolanda and the other Roman ruins, Newcastle, Durham and the Borders. I love this part of Britain and would not stay anyplace but the Centre of Britain. The rooms I've stayed in are spacious and comfortable with large and modern ensuite bathrooms. The old parts of the buildings are well preserved - even the tunnel! The staff are the best anywhere, and I can't say enough about the food - the restaurant is outstanding and worth visiting for a meal even if you don't stay the night. Christine, the manager and chef de cuisine, is amazing.

Room Tip: Not a bad room in the place.

We just returned from a three night stay and would happily return. The building dated to the 16th century, yet the renovations were tasteful and revealed great elements of the old architecture. The staff were as friendly as you can imagine and the breakfast was hearty and high quality. They even made sure they accommodated my dietary needs (celiac disease)

Room Tip: Suite A is brilant

I have just come home from staying overnight in this hotel on business and have to say I shall be returning for leisure purposes next time. We were made to feel so welcome upon arrival and i was given Room 3. The room was beautifully decorated and accessorised and the bathroom not only had a bath, shower but had its own sauna...heaven.
The staff were extremely attentive and could not do enough for us. The food was such good value for money we couldn't see how they could make a profit!!!!!
Thanks to Christine the manager who's customer service should be commended !!!!!!!!!
I cannot understand how anybody can give this hotel a bad review and if they did should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!!!!!
