We have just spent 3 wonderful nights at this superb B&B and have to say it is most definately the best one we have used and Lisa and Keith the owners are lovely so friendly and hospitable nothing was too much trouble. They have renovated the house with wonderful style and yet kept its character perfectly al the rooms are different and beautifully furnished with the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. It is in a great location and the village has 3 pubs which all offer something different and the food was good in them all particually the White Rose if you want something different.

A wonderful night at Skeldale House. Immaculate, spacious room with stunning views. Very friendly informative welcome. Great meal at the King's Arms (both opted for the pie and was without doubt one of the best we've ever had!) but would recommend sitting in the bar not the front dining room. It is pleasant enough but lacks atmosphere.
Had the best nights sleep in one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in followed by a good hearty breakfast, all cooked fresh and to perfection.
Will definitely return!!!

Room Tip: Farnon room on 2nd floor has amazing views!

5 of us came to Askrigg for a wedding and stayed for two nights at Skedale hotel. It was stunning. Newly renovated with beautiful style. The rooms were light and spacious with seperate dressing rooms . The owners were extremely kind friendly and welcoming and the breakfasts were superb. The hotel was opposite the Kings Arms pub which also had amazing food for cheap prices.
We will definitely be returning Kate and Olly

Room Tip: All the rooms very beautiful but if you can get a top floor you'll get better view of the valley

Skeldale House is nestled in a gorgeous village in the middle of the Dales and is well worth a visit. We spent 3 nights here over Easter and loved it. Our room was large, clean, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The breakfast is delicious - lots of choice and freshly prepared with quality ingredients. The poached eggs in particular were perfect and my wife enjoyed the delicious American pancakes. The hosts are lovely people and full of recommendations for dinner, walks and a good pint.

All in all, it was a very restful and enjoyable stay and at 80 quid per night very reasonably priced too. Thanks very much.

I don't think that I can adequately put into words how wonderful this establishment is, from the first welcome to the last goodbye the hosts are friendly, helpful and clearly enthusiastic about this gorgeous part of the world that they are lucky enough to live in.
We stayed in the Darrowby room for two nights and it was beautiful, wonderfully decorated and so spacious. The whole house looks lovely and the dining room is light and fresh with superb breakfasts on offer.
The Kings Arms over the road offers amazing food, we ate there both nights and can recommend it to everyone.
We chose to stay at Skeldale House as we are huge James Herriot fans and this had been on our "bucket list" and so we couldn't fail to be delighted, however you don't have to be crazy fans like us to be enthralled by Skeldale and it's lovely owners, if you're looking for accommodation in the Askrigg area please consider this beautiful house.

This is my first review ever and I've been inspired to write it not only because Skeldale House is an utterly charming and luxurious place to stay, nor because Lisa and Keth are such warm and welcoming hosts, nor because it's situation is wonderful, next to the tea shop and overlooking the market square, nor because it has the comfiest beds and best breakfast of our holiday- all of these would be reason enough, but the reason I wanted to put pen to paper was Lisa's real kindness when I made the booking. She only had a twin left and when I explained that a friend who may be widowed by then so we may need 3 beds, she didn't hesitate in offering to put in an extra bed on the busiest of weekends if we didn't mind the squash. In the event, we didn't need it, but it was offered with real warmth and concern and we could include our friend in our plans.

We had booked to stay at Skeldale House over Easter weekend. Four days before we were due to travel we received detailed confirmation directly from Lisa at Skeldale House confirming our booking, our room allocation and making arrival and deposit arrangements. We were therefore extremely surprised and disappointed to get a note from her the day before we were due to arrive to let us know that Booking.com had somehow made a mistake and left them double booked. As she had confirmed to me in writing the dates and room, I don't understand how responsibility could lie with a third party. The upshot was that they chose to honour the alternative booking and bumped us. Lisa highly recommended an alternative B&B in the village and arranged for us to stay there. I am grateful to the alternative B&B (which I won't name) for agreeing to accommodate us, but when we arrived, we discovered that it was a very different proposition from Skeldale House. Very basic, uncomfortable and completely lacking any view. Had Lisa pointed out that the recommended B&B was very basic, we would have undertaken to find alternative accommodation ourselves. However, she told us that it was a lovely room. So we found ourselves stuck in a very disappointing B&B with no phone signal and limited ability to find alternative options. We slept terribly, rose early and fortunately did manage to find beautiful accommodation elsewhere the next day. I am sure that Skeldale House itself is fantastic, but my experience is that their booking system is unreliable, and that their response to double bookings is far from optimal.

I am very sorry and upset that this mistake with the booking ever happened and can understand your initial disappointment. When you use outside booking aids your hands are a little tied at times and human error may happen from time to time with a delay between booking and updating diaries being inevitable. This mistake was not from our end but we will take full responsibility.

We have however, since this incident, signed up with a third party company, at our own expense, that manage all bookings from all parties. We therefore feel we have now done everything in our power to ensure such a mistake should never happen again.

In our defence, on realisation of the double booking we immediately found alternative accommodation very near to Skeldale House, which was difficult at such a very busy time of the year, Easter. We are very limited in Askrigg to a small choice of accommodation as we are a very small village but we felt confident that the B&B we booked for them was well maintained, beautifully presented and very comfortable with wonderful hosts. What the reviewer failed to mention was that we also covered full cost of the accommodation for the night they stayed!

Mobile signal in the Dales is very limited wherever you stay and I felt all descriptions of the other B&B unfair.

Lastly we always believed Trip Advisor was for people to review places where they have stayed and so feel this review is unjust and hurtful to have awarded us a 1 for a genuine mistake we had no control over. We feel this should not reflect on the reputation we have built up over the past 12 months and the many positive reviews people have kindly taken time to write.
