“Very relaxing get away”

Very cosy hotel. Made to feel very welcome by all staff, under efficient management. Room was comfortable and clean, although bells from the abbey strike every 15 mins and kept be awake a little. En suite bathroom spotless, and bed was lovely.

Breakfast was lovely atmosphere, no buffet food fights here - always plenty for everyone and a surprising choice too. Again, staff and management always willing to please.

Recommended.

The Crown has beautiful rooms that appeared to be recently refurbished. I had one of the chalets out in the courtyard and it was a very pleasant surprise walking into it.
The bar was homely and frequented by locals as a cosy watering hole. The bar staff were very pleasant. The food didn't disappoint. I ate in the bar but a restaurant meal as there was a game on the TV that I was watching. This was no trouble to the staff, they were very helpful. The bar was well stocked and the selection of beers was excellent. The Hotel is in a very picturesque Olde Worlde setting in the high street of this beautiful English village and is really a delightful setting. Nothing really to say bad about this place......very happy actually !!

We arrived an hour earlier than expected but were warmly welcomed and our room was ready. The room was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable and the en suite well equipped. The continental breakfast was very good with lots of choices , the breakfast room again immaculate. We would not hesitate to recommend this guest house and would stay there again when in the area.

I stayed here with my partner for one night to celebrate our anniversary, when we came into the room we were impressed with the size and the quality of the furnishings - including a very large flatscreen (we didn't get much use out of this but there is a large selection of DVDs to rent from the reception desk). However, when we first arrived we were greeted by a young girl who was quite grumpy to be honest, which put a slight dampener on things.

We didn't spend much time at the hotel, but we did have time for a few drinks in the bar before going to bed, the young girl from earlier was working which could explain her grumpiness as she was working at least a 12 hour shift. The bar is more commonly used as a restaurant, most of the people in there were eating, with a couple of locals at the bar, drinks were priced fairly reasonably though not cheap. The next morning we woke up bright and early for breakfast which was a bit disappointing, as with most B&Bs they had the continental breakfast as well as the option for a fry up. All I would say is that the fry up needed another egg or some more baked beans as it was a bit dry but is pretty much what you would expect from a breakfast that is included in the price, the waiting staff were very nice, especially the young man in glasses who was very quick to get me some black pudding when I asked for it. Overall, we were pretty happy with our stay and we would probably stay again.

I stayed here one night as I was working in the area. I was put in a room on the front of the hotel with a four poster bed. If I'm honest I don't think the room has been updated much since the bed arrived! The room was large, but not very clean, and with lots of mildew on the bathroom wall - it was a disappointing experience..

Whilst not the hotel's problem, the fact that the Abbey bells opposite ring every 15 minutes through the night mean that if you do stay here, bring ear plugs!

Room Tip: Avoid the front of the hotel, unless you're a lover of 24 hour bells!

We had a lovely stay at the George. The bed was comfortable, the shower pressure powerful and the breakfast was great. The staff were friendly but not too much and the service was good.
The room was spotless and I really liked the chandelier over the bed.
We will definitely stay there again as we thought it good value for money.
Only improvement would be an extractor fan in the bathroom as we steamed it up quite a bit!

Room Tip: Our room was in the newer building extending back to the car park

After a long drive we needed a place to stay that was quite & out of the way. Oxford was too large & noisy But we were pleased we kept on driving & stumbled on George Hotel..comfy rooms that were warm Great food on offer in the bar & the breakfast was more than ample. Excellent value & in a picturesque village.
