Returned visit, staying a couple of nights for ascot .
Shown to room 1 which had been slightly refurbished since our last visit .
This room is fairly basic and is another room we have stayed in this hotel which is very noisy, due to customers sitting outside .
Breakfast nice both mornings.
Staff not very friendly .
This is a comfortable , mid priced hotel with character that could be taken , I feel to a higher level fairly easily with just a few little tweeks.

Have stayed at the George a number of times now and always found it ok.
rooms are fine some are better than others but they all have character.
It is an old coaching inn and not a modern 5star hotel, but it is a lovely location in a nice little village.
Always found the staff friendly and enjoyed every stay

One of the oldest coaching inns in England offers, a cozy, friendly stay with good food. Not suitable for the disabled or very young children. Room # 4 had a great view over the high street and church. Great for a short stay. Hap-hazard service made me laugh - all added to a fun weekend. Appreciated the US king sized bed - what we are used to, and it was comfortable. Fight to get the best table in the mornings was amusing but then it was a very busy weekend. Dorchester on Thames is beautiful - take a walk around this lovely, English country village.

Room Tip: If you find stairs difficult, there are out side villas to choose from. Stress free parking was welc...

We stayed here to celebrate my sister's birthday and had a marvellous time. The atmosphere was both authentic and welcoming. Lots of well preserved historic features throughout the inn.
Food in the restaurant was marvellous; great quality, good price and fantastic setting. Do try the inventive specials.
Service was good - efficient and helpful
Was a lovely place to stay in a beautiful traditional English village. Full of character and charm. If you are lucky, the owner will tell you his ghost stories!

Room Tip: Room 12 on the gallery balcony was good, but not suitable if you have limited mobility as it is at t...

We booked in by 'phone directly with the hotel for a one night stay. When we rang, the girl who answered took our number so that the manager could ring us back. He did this, and told us we were booked in. We asked if a deposit was needed, and were assured it wasn't and everything was confirmed.

When we arrived, there was no record of our booking and there were no rooms available. Comments from some staff told us that this had happened before, but clearly no lessons had been leaned, which beggars belief. The manager didn't even have the courtesy to come out to apologise, leaving his staff to try to make up for his mistake by ringing round other hotels in the area. Luckily, a nearby hotel DID have a room, and we ended up in far more attractive surroundings with well-trained, attentive and professional staff led by a pleasant and very efficient manager. If looking for a hotel in Dorchester, don't trust The George, but go to The White Hart instead.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere

Didn't stay in the hotel popped in for a spot of lunch, nothing too exciting two baguettes and a side of chips. It took fifty mins to arrive (it was quiet) and no mention of an apology. The manager and staff look like they hate their work....a smile goes a long way! The food was nice but they even managed to mess up the order.....great place, great location, shocking staff and service.

Lovely stay, quirky old fashioned pub/ hotel with very pleasant staff. I stayed in Room 3, good sized double with nice bathroom and vey comfortable bed. Excellent meal in the restaurant - the tapenade that is served with the bread is to die for - I liked it that much they even gave me a small pot to take home! Lovely breakfast room and filling breakfast. Overall excellent value for money, great food & friendly service.

Room Tip: Room 3 is on the mian road which is not noisy but is opposite the catherdral which tolls EVERY hour!
