“Diet friendly pub”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

Lovely friendly pub with unpretentious meu, well-cooked and presented. Sam and Mark bend over backwards to accommodate special diets. Sam is a patisserie chef and always has a range of delicious gluten-free puds available, and most options on the menu can be cooked gluten-free. There is never any fuss or embarrassment in asking - a pleasure to eat there.

“Good find off A303”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

Stopped off here on journey along the A303 and was perfect. Staff were very friendly, burger was fresh and homemade and toddler meal was perfect. Will visit again and would recommend.

“Good food, good value and very friendly”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Eighteen of us got together for Sunday lunch and everyone including the seven children loved it. Our party included four vegetarians and two people with gluten intolerance but everyone was well catered for. The carvery was superb with lots of very fresh vegetables and the veggie carvery option of a nut roast with cheese topping was rated as excellent. The salads and burgers were also delicious and very well presented. Prices are very reasonable given the portion sizes and the children's carvery meals were particularly good value as were their enormous ice creams. We were able to sit outside whilst keeping an eye on the youngsters in the play area and it was all so relaxed. One of the owners took my booking on the phone and she was extremely helpful, advising on the best time to arrive with a big party of guests and talking through the children's menu and the other special dietary needs. You will need to book on a Sunday as the Walnut Tree was packed from 12.30 to 5.30 pm and still very busy in the evening. There is a good sized car park but this did become completely full as the afternoon went on. My husband and I stayed the night in one of the three very pretty guest rooms and so were able to also enjoy a beautifully cooked English breakfast. The location, just off the A 303, is great for exploring Stourhead, Salisbury, Stonehenge and all the lovely countryside of South Wiltshire. We hope to return next year!

“Great food for a reasonable price”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

3 of us have just had a meal this evening at The Walnut Tree. We had bread and olives followed Cajun chicken, chicken Italliene and the Thatcher's pork, then profiteroles and bread & butter pudding for dessert. For all of this and 2 rounds of drinks (of the alcoholic type), it came to just under £70. Service could be a little more attentive (we had to ask twice for a dessert menu), but apart from that no quibbles. Will return, the burgers look fantastic!
