A small restaurant that can be easily missed due to the small frontage (look for the big red prawn on the pavement to help locate).
The restaurant has a small menu but what I had was cooked to perfection! Goats cheese mousse starter had a finely balanced flavour and was the perfect start to a meal. For the main courses I had the pot of mussels from the specials board (was spoilt for choice on the specials board I would of eaten any of the dishes), my good lady decided on the beer batter haddock with hand cut chips and certainly did not regret her choice stating that it was absolutely delicious. I finished off with the mango pannacotta, which again, hit all the right notes especially when the small flakes of chilli tickled the taste buds at the end.

To cap it all, our waitress was the most friendly and helpful individual we have met in a long time.

We would highly recommend The Anchorage to anyone who is wanting a cosy environment, beautifully and skillfully cooked food at a reasonable price.

Stayed just one night in Tarbert as part of our Commonwealth Games visit to Scotland. As one of us is vegetarian the several fish restaurants along the quay didn't hit the spot. Then we found the Anchorage - don't miss it as it has a really narrow street frontage. We were delighted by the fact that the small menu contained two imaginative vegetarian dishes. Both the starters and main courses were beautifully presented and delicious. We would happily go there again and again.

We would make one small suggestion and that is that they offer wine by the glass in addition to Chardonnay.

The dishes served up here were all beautifully balanced in their complex flavours. The portions were not over-facing either, meaning we weren't overwhelmed by quantity allowing us to focus instead on quality. And quality dining this was. A pleasure.

We stopped in for an early dinner, one other couple there already and we were shown to a table at the door on a rainy day, after a bit of chat with the waiter, we ended up at a table in front of where the staff stand at the bar, slightly irritating to say the least especially when there were no other diners while we ate our meal.

Food was lovely, well prepared seafood although not a great choice of wines by the glass (only chardonnay)

The tables for four have a much better layout than those for couples.
