Don't let the paintwork put you off boarding; below decks this is a beautifully apppointed restaurant with a difference, serving locally caught produce, well cooked, at good prices. Friendly staff, great service, in a splendid setting.

Tarbert is one of the jewels of Scotland, and Dolphin is the jewel of Tarbert.

This is the sort of idea that could bring many ports like Tarbert to the forefront of British tourism. In theory it's dead simple - good quaity - locally sourced - food and drink in with impeccable service... on the waterfront in the saloon of an old barge. Sat inside a piece of history in good company. It's a modern menu in a historical port on an old vessel. Relax and enjoy..... and yes the St Mungo's mentioned by another reviewer is worth the trip alone.

We have just spent a week based in Tarbert and discovered the cafebarge on our last night. How we wished we had sampled it on our first night. Intriguing background, lovely ambience - no meaningless background music - and above all, great food at great prices. Tapas style - fresh local produce. Brought to the table "when it's ready". Great for just a drink, coffee and cake or a full-blown selection of tapas rounded off by a wee sherry. Can't praise this place enough - you just have to give it a try. and try the St Mungo's beer!
