We had a lovely week-end at this charming hotel set in glorious scenery.
The food was excellent, the staff very friendly and the experience was just one of total relaxation.
There are plenty of walks to undertake in the grounds.
The view from the dining room is fantastic.
The only thing missing is a spa and it would be perfect.
Can definitely recommend this hotel

Stayed here 3 nights over new year, food was excellent on some nights and poor on others. Served fudge afterwards which is a nice touch. Excellent views and walks, great if you bought your dog along like I did. Rooms are getting on a bit, and bathrooms defiantly need updating, but lovely quiet, scenic way to bring in the new year up in scotland.

Room Tip: bring your dog

We stayed for 3 nights and were amazed at the exceptional food - should definitely have one or even two Michelin stars. Apparently the chef, Billy, has only been there a couple of weeks and has impressed both customers and staff alike. The setting is beautiful and the staff very friendly and efficient. Only thing letting it down is that the interior desperately needs a complete makeover - very 'tired'. But food makes up for this - truly wonderful!

Firstly, can I just say, if you can, make your stay at least a two nighter - I wish we had but we were taking a 5pm deal on behalf of family who sadly couldnt make it. In fact the hotel was very accommodating in letting us extend the voucher time and that it didnt go to waste which was very good of them.

Me and the Mister travelled up on good friday and what a stonking weekend weather-wise it was. Unfortunately we never factored in the travel time and of course, fellow holiday weekend travellers - traffic was mental!! So it meant our trip took over an hour and a half longer than anticipated. Have to mention, it may be long but the drive up in the sunshine was amazing though and well worth it. Gutted that we arrived at 4pm (you can check in at 2pm!) as the minute we drove up to the Castle we were very pleasantly surprised by the gorgeous setting.

After parking the car and checking in, the lovely receptionist gave us a short guided tour of the Castle (as the layout can be a teeny bit confusing).

The actual Castle in some areas yes can do with a spruce up (the staircase banister is a bit wobbly) and there are obvious signs of wear and tear but decor and history of the place is evident, roaring real fires, chandeliers, sweeping staircase, massive oil paintings - its all going on.

And then we went to our room. I cant quite remember the number which is annoying but it was in the original part of the Castle (27 or 28 I think?) and we certainly werent disappointed. The room was HUGE - an awesome sized bed with a cute teddy bear in the centre of the pillows and cushions - bit sparse on furniture and a small telly but it was adequate for our needs but could be laid out better - you could certainly fit in a small table with the two chairs to eat from. Bathroom was good and modern although you couldve just imagined the type of old fashioned slipper bath that really should be there. Good shower too. The best bit of the room was the aspect out of the windows in the loo and the bedroom - you can see loch fyne in all its glory. The downside was the pillows were aboslute pants! in fact sleeping on some rolled up pants wouldve been better. Take note management: Beds of this size and stature need big puffed up mahoosive feather pillows that you sink slowly into when you lie down - NOT a pitful barely stuffed foam one. I had to use all the cushions that were stacked on the bed to rest my weary head at night..similarly the radiator (or something) in the room rattled ALL night! didnt bother the Mister who can sleep so soundly even a marching band coming into the room wouldnt awake him. However, it did rattle me! a lot! and funnily enough its stopped later on in the morning - just like that..weird.

Anyway back to the actual stay, after a quick unpack we jumped downstairs to get a drink at the bar (the barman does go on the run alot) as its a bit of a wait sometimes - anyhow, eventually we went outside with our drinks to enjoy the last dregs of sunshine on the patio before it went down for the night - being from Scotland, you never know when your next intake of Vitamin D will come again...so a couple of shuffles with the table and chairs every now and again sorted us for at least an hour.

The gardens are just lovely and an amazing walk - alot of people staying had their dogs and they all seemd to have a belter of a time in and out the loch so its a doggy friendly place.

Dinner (up to a certain amount per person) was included in our stay and we enjoyed it very much - the dining room is an add on and you can tell why - the view of Loch Fyne again is exquisite.

In the morning we had a great breakfast to set us up for the day and on our way home decided to stop off at Inveraray for a visit as the weather was so good.

Again, wish we could have stayed another night to make the most of it and go exploring more, all the staff were very welcoming and pleasant and we hope to be back very soon.

Yet again we had a wonderful two night break in our favourite hotel in Scotland .The deal was amazing value and the room probably the best in the Hotel (no30). Food here is, in our view comparable to Michelin Star experiences we have tasted. Wine is reasonably priced and of course the view from the dining room second to none in Scotland in our experience. Staff are extremely pleasant and helpful and the whole experience super relaxing. Take a walk around the "island" but take stout shoes or boots. The comment about shabbiness from another reviewer is overstated in our view although some areas are a little tired and need refreshed; but that kind of faded elegance in places is entirely OK with us.

Fablous location on Loch Fyne. great walks around the grounds. Dont be too desolate if your in the annex. Rooms are of a similar decor, only the corridors are a bit groovy, and these are due an upgrade in Summer 2014. We had a room in both wings. Old side on 1st floor lovely-but room hot. New side had great views over loch (50% do) Menu is varied. Fishy things fantastic.....both at breakfast and dinner. Grouds are lovely to walk around. Staff all lovely. Mostly Eastern European.......................even in this remote spot of the UK!
Cant really fault the stay. Wifi is spasmodic and mobile network likewise. it works ok on Hotel patio overlookinmg loch if you need to make calls. Constant re logging into wifi is annoying but best to just chill!!

Room Tip: Room 22. Ask for aview of the loch....or old wing....or both!!!
