Had a fantastic 2 night stay at this beautiful hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful and food was magnificent. We booked via laterooms and got an fantastic deal. A magical weekend all round with walks in the ground and being able to sit in comfort in the public rooms and enjoy the hospitality. Loved it and will be back

I booked first and looked at Trip Advisor second and I can't understand how some of the negative reviews came about. Admittedly, we weren't fans of the music in the dining room, but apart from that, couldn't fault the hotel. The bedroom was clean, comfortable and had plenty of room as did the bath room. The dinner menu was varied: we spent four nights there, and there were still some dishes I would like to have tried, but didn't get around to, while one could have survived until dinner on their breakfasts. The hotel is set in spectacular scenery, while Scottish baronial architecture always has that "wow" factor. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We booked on a late availability package in November, which was fantastic value for money, beating many B & B rates.

We have just had three delightful nights staying at the stonefield castle hotel where we were allocated a double room overlooking the loch. The room was clean, spacious, & had a large double bed. The staff were all extremely friendly whilst maintaining a very professional & respectful manner.
Breakfast was well cooked & delicious as were the meals in the restaurant at night, but the greatest asset of this hotel is the location, situated just a stones throw away from the loch shoreline & surrounded by stunning scenery this hotel is an ideal spot for a quiet getaway or for touring the many little villages on the peninsula. The conservatory restaurant where breakfast & evening meals are served has breath taking views, especially at breakfast where we sat & ate as the sun came up over the tree tops. A magical moment we will remember for years to come, we would not hesitate to suggest you give this castle a try if you are staying in the area.

My husband and I have just returned from an over night stay at this hotel.
Our first impressions were good .The hotel isa very impressive building set in beautiful grounds. We were shown to our room which was adequate with a lovely view over the loch.

As we were on a dinner B & B booking we were allowed £25 towardsour evening meal. This we were to discover did not go very far. The menu was very limited mainly consisting of fish dishes. I chose langoustines as a starter only to be told they were not available and I really struggled to find another starter I liked, ending up with soup which was tasty although only luke warm. My husband chose blackpudding with a poached egg which he enjoyed.
Our main courses, however, were very disappointing.
I chose a half lobster. This cost £23 but it had not been cleaned out and dressed !!! The meat in the claw was tasty enough but the offal in the shell was disgusting , so much so I ate very little.
As my husband is not keen on fish he chose a steak costing £24.50. This proved to be tough and full of gristle and he had to send it back. Although he was offered an alternative meal he declined. By this time we had little faith in the chef and his kitchen staff!
Our concerns were confirmed at breakfast. Very little fresh fruit on offer and very undercooked scrambled eggs.

Overall we were very disappointed in a hotel for which we had high expectations.

Would we return to Stonefield Castle ? NO !!!

I am very surprised with your comments as our menu has lots of choice. It has a large selection of Shellfish which is subject to availability as said on the menu, as we are so close to Loch Fyne we pride ourselves on providing the very best shellfish and presentation and preparation of the dish is too a high standard. The menu has over ten other choices for both starters and main courses which is not just fish. Main courses include Venison, Beef, Vegetarian Dishes and many more. There are over five different combinations where you can get three courses for the amount of £25.
Regarding breakfast we provide a large selection of choice on our buffet. We have Orange Segments, Grapefruit Segments, Prunes, Meats and Cheeses, Dried fruit, Yoghurts and so on. In the lobby also we have a large fruit bowl also with Apples, Bananas, Grapes and Oranges which is always fool. Our scrambled eggs are cooked exactly the same everyday by the head chef’s recipe and timings and we usually get compliments on them.
I hope in the near future we can welcome you back to Stonefield Castle and show you what a special place this really is.

lovely driveway up to a very imposing "castle" very helpfull and friendly staff (mainly hungarian) .
Very nicely furnished bedroom an clean spacious bathroom.
Food very good but if you were staying more than a couple of nights the menu doesnt change. the dining /conservatorty give stunning views of loch fynne
The decor and feel in drawing room and libary are of a byegone age of elegance and nostalgia.

We were looking forward to the planned couple of nights......The drive to the castle has wonderful views and the grounds to the castle are stunning. What a stark contrast the room was. Damp, smelly, hald the lights weren't working and the furniture was like something from the Ark. The bathroom too, was grubby with chipped cabinets and generally uncared for. Within 10 minutes we cancelled our second night (it was too late in the day to cancel night one).....Nobody asked why.....We asked for the light bulbs to be repaired, nobody had time ....We felt that was genuine. The reception lady, was the bar lady and the waitress,,,the telephonist, the lighter of fires, the general doer of all things.....except light bulbs!
Biggest issue for me was the bedding which was less than sanitary - you could smell other people's sweat - URGH!

The design and colour of the furniture at the hotel are darker colours which are usually found in castle hotels rather then very modern designs and bright colours.
It is very unusual to have complaints about damp and smelly rooms as all rooms are cleaned thoroughly and as well as bed linen, changed on a daily basis.
Regarding the lights and chipped cabinet our maintenance engineer has sorted it out and has started the with the usual autumn maintenance and repair program.
All our staff are trained in various jobs and it may occasionally happen that one member of staff can be found in different departments.
It is however unfortunate that apparently nobody asked in this case for the reason
of leaving a night early as we could possibly have sorted out the problems mentioned..

This hotel break was arranged at short notice and our decision to stay here was largely based on the fact that we could take our 2 dogs with us. The hotel location is superb, the accommodation clean enough but 'tired' looking, the staff mostly very attentive and approachable. Our only real issue was the dreadful 'piped' music in the dining room. It was both loud and very, very dated (a 'looped' tape of Mowtown music - aghhhh!). The cost of meals and drinks are probably broadly in line with similar accommodation - not cheap but not prohibitively expensive. The food was VERY good on both evenings we dined in the restaurant.
