“Excellent view and food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2006

New Owners took over hotel at beginning of summer and they are currently trying to upgrade many things, the bedrooms and sitting area amongst them.

ALL the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful about where to go and what to see, the restaurant looks out over west loch bay and it was spectacular to sit and look out at the view, and watch the ducks and the occasional fish jumping.

The meals are excellent and a lot of locals eat there which is a defenite sign of the quality and quantity (which is not for the faint hearted)

The rooms were basic but the showers excellent and the water was hot. Would have loved a loch view - but then didnt ask for one so guess that was to be expected ( though he hotel was quiet)

Lots to do in surrrounding areas and would say it is worth visiting for short stays and the food and the views.

  • Liked — The views and the freindly staff and the excellent food
  • Disliked — Bedrooms could do with modernisation and although my bed was comfy the other party members bed was not comfy - but to be fair new owners trying to upgrade existing facilities
  • Tips/Secrets — the food is a must, and a trip to any of the islands well worth the effort

The new euthusiastic owners recognise there's a few things to do, but they are helpfui and welcoming. Good for our one night touring visit. A bit out of the village of Tarbert itself

The place itself has all the basics covered well. The place is very scenic and peacful, staff friendly and helpful at all times.

The restaurant looks out to the sand beaches and golf course, so on a good day makes a lovely view while having breakfast/dinner. There is also a decent lounge area if you dont want to go to the bar.

What annoyed us was that despite being told we did not need to book, we arrived at the hotel just before 9pm and yet staff wouldnt serve.

This is simply how it works out in the country, and not really reflective of the hotel itself. It's worth mentioning in case anyone else goes there with expectations of a late meal, since the same applies any other hotel in tarbert.

I would still recommend anyone to check this hotel out. As long as you check the weather first!
