“Not bad - but on the expensive side”
Reviewed 15 January 2012

We've eaten here a few times as we are locals and in general the food (the most important thing!) is very good although some elements are expensive for what they are. The pad thai noodles are pretty basic and I would expect a bit more in terms of content and quantity for the money (they are only noodles after all!)

I've tried most of the main courses and can't fault them for taste but are a bit on the small side - beware of some of the fish specials which are very pricey for very little - I'm only comparing this restaurant with others in the area to give an idea of value for money and this restaurant although nice is on the high side. Rice portions are also tiny. Would I go back? Probably yes but if you're prepared to drive a bit further then there are better - so good but not my first choice mainly based on value for money. I've no doubt you will enjoy the food though.

Thank you for returning to our restaurant we are sorry that you feel the Pad Thai Noodles were too small and not enough for you to eat, however lots of customers have actually never quite finish their Pad Thai and some times they have asked to be taken home.

Fish specials – we give two seabass fillets

Sweet and sour seabass has vegetables ie pepper, onion, spring onion, cucumber and pineapple.

Pla Sam Rod only has Chefs special sauce pour on the top of the fish sprinkle with fresh coriander and few fried Thai chillies. So this dish does not have any vegetables like sweet and sour because first of all it isn’t authentic Thai and secondly non of the vegetables goes with this dish. Some Thai restaurant put fancy vegetables so that it makes it looks a bigger portions but for us it just pure bass fillets. I would rather have two bass fillets then lots of vegetables and no meat!

We are planning to update our menus but we are close for a month now, so whenever you fancy Thai food, come and visit us. And if you have any comments or complain please feel free to come and talk to us in the kitchen. We will try our best to accommodate your needs.

“What a lovely evening!”
Reviewed 4 December 2011

We went to the thai harbour for the first time last evening after reading a review on Trip Advisor. We chose the early bird 3 course option and were delighted with the ambiance of the restaurant, the friendly and helpful staff (thank you silvia) but most of all with the food which was quite delicious.
We will definately be going back again!

Unfortunately it was dark when we went for dinner so couldn't admire the awesome views but the food was very, very good. Service was great & the menu explained well. Was good value for money.

“Nice location in the harbour - and decent food”
Reviewed 30 October 2011

Booked for an early bird special at 15 pounds per person for three courses (available before 6). A modest selection but all four of us chose something different and enjoyed it all. Menus are on the web site. The ''medium spicy'' meals have just the right amount of heat - there is a choice of chicken, pork or beef.
We found it very quiet (only one other early bird table occupied) but the place started to fill up as we were leaving.
Well worth a visit - there are only a few places open in the evening in Porthmadog.

“Thai Dda iawn!”
Reviewed 28 October 2011

We were politely greeted by a member of staff and shown to our seats which had a view of the harbour. A simple, neat and comfy setting. Couple of beers, a red wine and a Mango juice on the table and it was time to browse the early bird menu.

Fashionable late dining aside (hard times = early bird).

The menu had a decent selection of dishes to choose from. £15 for 3 courses sounded promising.

I ordered sesame pork toast which proved to be very tasty, accompanied by a sweet chilli and a sweet and sour dip with some fruity salad garnish. This was followed up by a red Thai chicken curry with jasmine rice, and then some chocolate ice cream to wrap it up.

The meal was very tasty throughout. No issues whatsoever. Good portion sizes neatly presented. Red curry had a decent amount of heat but not atomic. The Ice cream was of fine quality with a pleasant fruity sauce to join it.

At £15 my meal was superb value, the total bill was just seventy of so pounds for drinks and 4x3 courses it would be hard to beat.

If asked to go back, I would do so without hesitation. My guests all left with a contented smile upon their faces.

A couple of hours well spent!
