Great beer, really tasty. Very small shop and brewery, but the guy was very helpful and advised me on which types would best suit. No idea why they called it purple moose, other than that mws piws rhymes. Top tip is to buy your mws piws from the brewery shop as it is cheaper there than in any of the shops in town.

We visited the brewery while in Portmadoc. They were very helpful and let us try their beer before buying any.
They have a range of beers and it is well worth trying them as they are very different.
We really liked the one with elderflower as it was very refreshing.
The staff are very helpful and friendly.
They do tours of the brewery. We did not do this as we did not have the time.

I'm no connoiseur of ales, but I do know a good pint when I taste one. Their 'Snowdon' beer is first-class. Good price in bulk, a nice memento of a visit to the area.

No idea what previous reviewer is on about with no tour - there certainly is one as went on it yesterday. Bargain for £5 as tour was very interesting, including free £2.99 pint glass and tasters. The shop is superb with bottled beer extremely cheap. Spooners Bar at Porthmadog Harbour Station down the road does it on tap so perfect to finish the day with. Great range of merchandise too. Highly recommend 'Dark Side of the Moose'

The recent reviewer is actually factually incorrect. There are short brewery tours available every Monday to Thursday at 2.00pm, but booking is essential as they can only accommodate up to 8 people at a time due to the small size of the brewery. All details are available from the brewery web site.
We visited yesterday and it was very good. As I have visited many other breweries it didn't tell me anything I did not know already but always good to get up close to the brewing process and especially good to see that their continuing growth in demand has allowed Purple Moose to recently upgrade from a 10 barrel plant to a 40 barrel plant in April this year.
Tasters are available at all times and worth visiting for these alone as their currently available five beers are very good, especially the Dark Side of the Moose which is an excellent dark bitter.
There is limited parking outside the brewery but the large town 'cash and flash' car park ( pay and display if you are not familiar with that colloquial expression ) is only a short walk away, especially if you park at the far end after entering from the southern entrance nearest the heritage rail station.
In conclusion an excellent hard working local microbrewery and if you like British Ale, give it your patronage when in the area.
