“Great afternoon”
Reviewed 28 October 2013 via mobile

The Welsh Highland Heritage Railway is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon/morning. Yes it is only a small railway in comparison to the other steam trains in Porthmadog, but it is good value and offers a close up experience that others can not offer.
My 18 month old son loved the short journey and really enjoyed the engine sheds with all the interactive exhibitions.
Don't go expecting a long journey into the Snowdonia mountains, but what you do get in terms of service and a hands on experience will make up for the lack of distance.

Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

“Great little train”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

Super afternoon visit. Friendly staff. My 7 yr old son got to change the points for the train, excellent memories. Lovely miniature train ride and museum. Great new attraction The Runaway Train. Another hit with my son. Will definitely be returning next year. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

“Don't get confused”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

This is a little railway at Porthmadog that has a short journey on a heritage train and return. You go a few hundred yards and then stop at their museum where we had to get off for a walk round. A little disappointing. Trip done and dusted in under an hour. The food at the little cafe was nice though and good value.

Don't get this one confused with the Welsh Highland Railway which is the one that goes from Porthmadog to Caernarfon on a 25 mile journey.

“Stumbled upon a little gem.”
Reviewed 19 September 2013

We followed brown tourist signs to the WHHR thinking it was THE Welsh Highland Railway.. Still went anyway, and what a lovely little railway run by very enthusiastic volunteers. Never have we been to such a hands on railway with our children. They were allowed to change the points for the engine. Carry the red lamp to the back of the train, pass the key to the driver etc.. Made our children age 7 and 3 feel very important. Had a ride on a miniature steam engine when we got to the museum, which was lovely. Think Toby from Thomas the tank etc!! Museum is very well kept. All the engines and carriages are accessible to the children again, and have features to play with, such as the whistle, revving up a diesel engine etc.. And they even have a hearse carriage!! Well worth a look, and the shop is ideal for book enthusiasts and model railway fans with track and kit to buy. Cafe on site too, but we didn't use this..
