“An excellent fish and chips cafe”
Reviewed 17 May 2014

A pleasure to eat in a friendly atmosphere food which has been well cooked. Tasty fish with a crisp coating and no excess oil, chips hot and crisp, and mushy peas to go with it.
Staff were attentive and welcoming and service was prompt.

“Need more attentive staff”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

Arrived at Portmadog on the Ffestiniog railway from Blaenau and went into town, it was a weekday, and April, so not much activity. We found Lilly’s Kitchen, and went in and there was a large number of people inside and outside eating.

We found 2 tables (6 of us eating) and sat and waited, then we waited a little longer. After 15 minutes we wondered if we were meant to order at the counter, so I went up, only to find that it was table service so returned to our table. After a further 5 minutes no one had approached our table, so we decided that it was time to move on.

We weren’t the only people to give up and leave – but there’s a constant flow of people into Lilly’s so I’m not sure that they notice/mind as they were always near/or at capacity so on the face of things weren’t losing business. My parents in law did managed to get served (maybe we’d picked the wrong table - we were sat by the window next to the door) and weren’t overly impressed with the 'stodgy batter' on the fish and chips.

If busy, the staff could just offer a ‘we’re extremely busy but will be right with you’, or at least take drinks orders to engage you. Disappointed, we walked back to the railway station and ate at Spooner’s.

Holidaying at Black Rock Sands, my daughter and I enjoyed an afternoon in Porthmadog. My daughter enjoys visiting chip shops in almost every new place we visit and likes to mark them out of 10!
So her review follows ☺

“Superb fish & chips!”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

Visited the area last Spring and looked for somewhere for lunch in Porthmadog. Found this little gem on the High Street. The haddock and chips was superb and the service was excellent and friendly. Can thoroughly recommend if you're looking for great fish and chips.
