“Perfect B&B”
Reviewed 3 October 2011

Stayed at Tudor Lodge for two nights/three days. Conveniently situated in Porthmadog, a perfect base to explore the town and surrounding areas. Had a fantastic welcome from Carl who told us the the best places to visit/eat and how to get there (The Square in Tremadog is a must for a fantastic meal). The room was clean and comfortable, everything you need. Only managed breakfast once but the choice was fantastic and the fruit was really fresh. Would definitely recommend friends/family to stay. Thank you Carl and Anja.

The hospitality of the owners Anja and Carl was superb - informed you of all local attractions and places to eat. Room was superb, very clean and comfortable. It has been refurbished to a very high standard. Continental breakfast was plentiful and there was a wide variety of choice. Would certainly recommend to friends and family.

A last minute decision to visit the newly extended Welsh Highland Railway meant there was very little choice of places to stay in Porthmadog. However, the Tudor Lodge turned out to be well above average. The room was comfortable and clean, and the continental breakfast offered excellent choice and quality. Anja and carl were very welcoming and helpful: Anja's knowledge of the train times was impressive. My only criticism would be the lack of a light over the bathroom mirror.

I have stayed at Tudor Lodge two times over the last two years. Having stayed at Porthmadog before, I have to say that in quality, there is first Tudor Lodge, next comes, errh, ... well. I'd go for nothing else. The rooms are cosy ("gemütlich", as we Germans put it) and clean, the premises are well kept, and if a light bulb is broken and you tell them during breakfast, you fill find it repaired once you return to your room! Carl and Anja are most helpful and try to be as quick in response to your needs as possible. Got a question on Gwynedd sights or timetables for your voyage home? No prob - they volunteered to look up details on the Internet (even without us asking them for help)! When we got soaked they helped get our shoes dry... (no, Tudor lodge is NOT responsible for the rain coming in from the sea, mind you!!!) so we really felt well cared for. If you want to stay at a place where you are more than a mere anonymous guest and where the landlord really achieves to be a true host, Tudor Lodge is the place of your choice.

Room Tip: Carl and Anja plan on expansion. Also, Porthmadog will have a bypass soon. So, in addition to the al...

Many thanks Anja and Carl for a lovely warm friendly atmosphere. Room as usual lovely and clean, breakfast room also nice and clean. Tudor Lodge is situated just nicely to visit the surrounding areas of beautiful Wales. Pleased there is a Royal British Legion in Prthmadog.

We had a very pleasant three nights stay last week, excellent accommodation, good and plentiful continental breakfast and adequate on-site car parking. Anja and Carl were very attentive and informative hosts.

We arrived at Tudor lodge and drove into a misfit shaped gravel area known as 'parking'. This area was very very tight. And as we checked in we found that we needed to go out n move the car as their is a strict plan to were and when u can park- as a result of it's awkward shape- this was a let down as we felt we needed to stay in Porthmadog rather than head out and be faced with a very tricky space to attempt to get into.
I found it welcoming but I was shocked to find that we have to pay on arrival, before even viewing our room!

The room was spotless, no odours, although a spider nest was on the ceiling of the bathroom in roomm 12 which I've already a fear of- however I think this just hadn't been spotted, the bed was lovely and solid. Bathroom was lovely and modern. Decor was ok but needed an upgrade along with furniture and tv.

We were extremely disappointed that a cooked breakfast was not available when we had paid £74 for one night. So we decided to leave and go have breakfast out of town, but of course we couldn't get out, even with the master plan of positioning! So we had to go into portmadog and pay £16 more for breakfast!

While the place was clean and tidy it all just seemed a bit awkward at times, making us have to re jigg our plans and stay in the village rather than being able to come ang go as we pleased.it put a dampener on the already expensive overnight stay for us, it was a shame.

Tudorlodge, Owner at Tudor Lodge, responded to this review, 31 August 2011
We are very sorry to learn that the parking arrangements at Tudor Lodge have caused this customer some inconvenience. As the owners, we are here to assist all our guests with any issues they may have and this particular problem could have been easily avoided had the guest approached us with his/her predicament. Tudor Lodge is located in the centre of Porthmadog which is very busy, especially during the main summer season which regrettably can result in an occasional lack of parking spaces. However, we offer free parking facilities to our guests and the problem is being addressed by our new car park extension which is currently under way.
Tudor Lodge is a family-run business with a strong Scandinavian/German influence which is reflected in our breakfast. We provide a comprehensive continental style buffet breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere. We do not offer cooked breakfasts, nor do we claim to do so. Upon making a booking, and once again on check-in our guests are informed of the style of breakfast available in order to ensure full customer awareness. We have a very personal approach to hospitality, therefore breakfast time is extremely valuable to us as it gives us the opportunity to engage in social interaction with all our guests. It is for this reason that we have made the management decision to take all payments on arrival, a policy, which, again is very transparent.
We do appreciate that some aspects of our business may be different and possibly not to everyone’s liking. However, we strongly feel that we are running a business that reflects our personalities and our very own distinct approach to hospitality. Judging by the vast amounts of positive feedbacks, our guests appear to be in agreement.
