If you want to be in this part of Wales, Tudor Lodge is the place to stay. Carl and Anja are brilliant hosts giving their expertise of the area and offering suggestions of where to go to get the best from a few days break. The Lodge is spotless, the rooms very comfortable and the breakfasts so enjoyable.

Just returned from a 3 night stay with friends. We were made to feel most welcome and Carl went out of his way to provide local information to enable us to make the most of our time in the area.

The building is well maintained and our rooms were spotlessly clean and furnished to a very high standard. It was very cold outside but the heating system was more than capable of coping with it! The guest house is also well located and within easy walking distance of several good places to eat.

After the first night we happened to mention over breakfast that the pillows in our room were a little too firm for our comfort. Anja overheard this and immediately offered to replace them which she subsequently did. We had a bottle of wine in our room and 2 wine glasses magically appeared. These little things really show that they care about their guests and although they cost nothing are certainly worth a lot.

Friendly, comfortable, clean and well maintained. You just can't ask for more.

Just returned after three nights on business.
I was greeted by Carl on arrival who was very informative & friendly. The room was fine & the shower was great, the bed was comfy. The room was very clean, plenty of tea, coffee etc.
The next morning we were met by Anja who was also very friendly. Plenty of choice for breakfast.
Overall a great place to stay if visiting the area. I will return again when in the area. I can't understand the negative comments because I was made to feel very welcome.

Located a 100 yards away from the roundabout at the end of Porthmadog high street is the Tudor looking building. It has been extended backwards and is now an individual quirky, DIY owner run B&B. It's clean, tidy, friendly, quiet, comfortable and OK.
But it didn't quite satisfy us. Notices on the front door giving the same instructions at least three times about how to press the buzzer to get entry, a large notice telling you, before you entered the building, that you had to pay an extra 2% if you wanted to pay by credit card and numerous other pieces of information, gave you the impression that this was a place where you had to play by the rules of the house, rather than being welcomed to a flexible, accommodating place.
I was disappointed by breakfast - Continental - no ability to start the day with traditional Welsh Breakfast which most B&B's pride themselves on. Can't complain about the sliced bread that you toast yourself, the yesterday supermarket croissants being kept slightly warm on a hot plate or the small plate of ham, salami and sliced cheese that aimed to add the "continental" flavour to the breakfast. But there wasn't much fresh fruit or anything that you couldn't buy from Lidl or Aldi.
I think for £84 we could have got better value - but there was not really anything wrong with the place. The modern Travel Lodge a few hundred yards down the road for £43 might be a more value for money place if you are just looking for a one night place to sleep and happy with the consistency offered by brands.

We are very sorry to hear that your stay with us here at Tudor Lodge “didn’t quite satisfy you”. Clearly, continental style breakfast is not to your personal liking, a consideration, we always urge our customers to make prior to booking with us.
With regards to the notices mentioned, we comply with a legal requirement to inform our guests of certain business-related aspects such as the surcharge for credit card payments. We apologise if that compliance somewhat compromises your first impression of our establishment.
As a small family-run business we are unable to man our reception 24 hours a day, therefore we require our guests to ring the door bell and intercom upon their check-in arrival, hence the other notice at the front door.
Having evaluated your feedback, we conclude that, as a guest, you are probably far happier in and more suited to the “consistency of branded cheaper chain hotels” than a “quirky, DIY owner run” establishment with personality.

We stayed recently at the Tudor Lodge in Porthmadog and had a fantastic time. The room was spacious and had the added bonus of free WIFI. The Bathroom was particularly nice and was really modern (older facilities are often a problem in B&B's). Carl and Anja are chatty and were lovely hosts. I seriously wouldn't bother looking elsewhere in Porthmadog, this is a great place to stay.

We stayed at the Tudor Lodge for two nights as we were going to a wedding at Portmerion. We had a warm friendly welcome from Carl who was good enough to recommend the Ship Hotel for something to eat. We couldn't have found anywhere better! Its a very short drive to Portmerion and very convenient for the railways as previous posters have said. We have said we want to explore the area further and will definitely by staying at the Tudor Lodge

Booked a group to stay here for a few nights when we rode the marvellous newly opened Welsh Highland Line in September. Great B&B, could give many hotels a run for their money. Central location but quiet and very handy for both the mainline station and the narrow gauge lines.
Well appointed rooms, although not huge, and with great en-suite showers. Breakfast, although not a cooked one, was superb. My wife was particularly impressed by the fresh fruit and availability of non-caffeine teas and coffees.
Good value for money with great hosts.
