Stayed in caravan 355. Bit disappointing , it was a big van but needs attention. It's not the age of the van or mod cons ,it's the van itself. Curtains covered in mould, door knobs on every room hanging off , squished bug on the wall, the mattress in our room was like a rib cage ,I've seriously never slept on anything like it in my life, all the springs are right on the top of it,I have photos of all this but can't see where I upload them, the entertainment room is packed ,it's too small for the site as if you aren't willing to get down there early and start boozing u don't get a seat, lots of chavs on site,LOTS. There's a soft play area in the cafe that's filthy,I wouldn't let my kids play on it,it's greasy and looks like a litter bin underneath, there were kids climbing up the sides on the roof of it like ferrel animals (parents fault) and the class of people in there is bad in some cases. There was a man with 2 kids walking round the 2 pence shove machines having them kick the trays to rob 2pences ,again not the sites fault. The dj has his mike on so loud you are deafened every time he talks, the other staffs mike levels were fine so I don't know why it's set up like that. Women standing outside the sports bar effin and Jeffin in front of kids etc. again not the sites fault, mainly it just needs a cleaning .3 star caravan should be reflected on how modern it is not how it's maintained and cleaned.

Dear Mr B

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts regarding your stay at Marine Holiday Park.

As humbling as it is to receive this criticism, your critique will serve our team well, as we do continually look to find opportunities to improve our levels of service and attention to detail. I would like to reassure you that, while your stay did not meet the highest level of service I know we are capable of, your experience is a rare one – one that I hope you will allow us to improve upon, provided you choose to give us another chance in the near future. The park does get busy especially during the bank holiday, we have a sports bar but we also have a club which is much bigger than the first room.

The soft play area is cleaned daily however since your review we have put a sign stating that food and drink can not be consumed within the soft play area. The soft play area is designed for children to enjoy and have fun.

The arcade is supervised and no antisocial behaviour is tolerated at all. If you would like to discuss your stay further, then please do not hesitate to contact me by phone 01745 333989 or you can e-mail me lynette.large@marineholidaypark.com

Yours Sincerely

Reviewed 25 August 2014

We stayed in a 'brand new' platinum caravan for a week during August. Overall we had a disappointing stay but will go into detail for the benefit of any site staff reading this review as it is clear a lot of money is/has been spent on modernising the park.

Staff:

Didn't have a lot to do with the site staff but they were friendly enough and willing to help. The poolside staff were very vigilant against unsafe behaviour.

Pool area:

The pool area itself is far too small for the park. It got extremely busy during the day from around 10am. We swam at around 9am every morning when the pool was empty and then had a breakfast at the cafe - which was very good and became a daily routine for us before heading out for the day.

The changing rooms were dirty (disappointing considering we were the first to use them everyday) and the showers cold.

Caravan:

The caravan was okay. But considering it was 'new' the bathroom door mechanism was jammed and the carpet was coming away in the living room. We also found old socks and crisp wrappers under one of the beds. We contacted the site to repair the door, the mechanism was simply removed but no replacement fitted. We had to shower/use the loo with the door open for the duration of our stay.

Night entertainment / food:

We ventured out on the night of our arrival and instantly decided that we would spend the rest of our evenings in the caravan. The main room and bar area was absolutely packed while kids ran riot outside - thank goodness our caravan was at the other side of the site. We felt very intimidated by the people hanging around outside the entrance smoking and the foul mouthed louts at the bar area. Not really a place for children.

The building would benefit from a more inviting entrance from the access road side (near the park entrance) and maybe some security on the door. It would also be worthwhile to have a 'beer garden' type area near the park so parents could keep an eye on their children.

The food outlet was expensive and the food poor. But what else do you expect from two 16 year old girls on minimum wage.

Summary:

As said at the beginning of the review, it looks as though a significant amount of money is/has been spent on modernising the site and hopefully they'll get it right in future.

We only used the park as a base while we went sightseeing across Northern Wales. We had great times in Wales, although none of them were had during our time at the site. We expected more for the price we paid.

Nearby Conwy or Llandudno may offer better value for money if you're planning a holiday in North Wales.

Dear Adam C

Thank you for your balanced comments following your recent stay at Marine Holiday Park. I have discussed your comments with the team in order to help us improve the quality and service we offer.

Thank you for your kind comments regarding our staff especially the lifeguards for doing such a good job keeping everyone safe at all times.

The pool can get busy at times especially during August Bank Holiday as it is children's last holiday before school starts back. We have increased the amount of times the changing rooms are checked to ensure standards are met at all times.

I am glad you enjoyed your morning breakfast from the Mermaids Cafe. We had no reports of the showers being cold during your stay.

I am glad you liked your allocated caravan but I am sorry you experienced a problem with the bathroom door mechanism and the carpet. I am also sorry you found a wrapper under the bed. Caravans are checked by our Housekeeper before they are let out and I apologise if something was missed.

It is a shame you did not experience our full Entertainment as we had performances from acts like Brotherhood of Man.

We do have a security team on Park who also monitor the doors at all times.

We do have a park area so parents can keep an eye on their children.

I am sorry you found the food outlet expensive, at Marine Holiday Park we keep prices reasonable to ensure good value for money.

I do hope you will consider returning to Marine Holiday Park in the future.

Yours Sincerely

We booked a 2 night stay on 16th and we had a fab time. Had to wait till 4 for keys which was a pain and could do with a luggage storage but caravan was spotless and in a good quiet location (101). Dad's been coming here since he was 7 and is now 63. My son is 18 and we've holidayed here every year. Entertainment for all is excellent, loved the pool glad to see staff checked passes to ensure only guests were on site. Staff were extremely friendly and recognised us straight away especially Craig. Site is lovely and clean and we wanted to extend our stay for another 2 nights. Cleaner arranged this for us and really went out of her way to help us (thank you). Will definately be coming back next year, can't wait to see you all again.

We had a great holiday at marine the park itself was great until we visited the pool.it was freezing and we noticed that there was no smell of chlorine that you can normally detect in a swimming pool we swam in it twice before all five of us came down with and awful virus which has lasted ten days. We have all been really Ill and I can't help but put it down to the pool not being clean as it was the day after we used it we all became Ill. Really spoiled the end of our holiday our caravan was great as we hired privately from an owner but the pool area needs to be looked into as it stunk of urine in the changing rooms and the water was defiantly not being cleaned as it should. I've never come out of a swimming pool before and not been able to smell chlorine on swimming costumes etc I would avoid unless the pool is maintained as it really is a health hazard

Dear Hb00

I am glad you had a great Holiday with us but I must explain why the pool does not smell of Chlorine as noted. We have implemented a new system which automatically detects when certain chemicals are needed which are then released. This helps reduce the strong Chlorine smell and helps maintain our high standard of cleanliness within the pool which is regulated and checked on a regular basis.

Fantastic holiday park - clean and well maintained! Something for the kids all day long!! We went for the bronze caravan and were expecting one a little worse for wear - but we were so pleased to get top class caravan, immaculate!! Everything we needed was there - crockery, cutlery and a flat screen tv with freeview! plenty of bedding and we brought our own covers and sheets. The pool was well watched by the lifegaurds and was never too busy even in high season! Evening entertainment for the kids was a real plus! They loved every minute of it as did us adults !! 2A+4K

We stayed for a week 2-9 Aug and we had a fantastic time. The park is ideal location for those who cannot drive, walking distance from train station and Rhyl town centre where there is alot more to do than when we were kids. We have a 2 & 6 year old who had a fantastic time. There are activities throughout the day (for all ages & weather) as well as evening entertainment. My Son (being a mad evertonian) was over the moon playing football with Neville Southall and members of the youth team. There was a limbo, talent, colouring & fancy dress competition the nights we went the club along with bingo & disco dancing. The pool was slightly cool first thing but that never bothered the kids in the slightest. The staff were great & really helpful. Will definitely recommend to everyone x x
