Fantastic place, a little gem. Very welcoming, excellent room and wonderful food. Don't leave without having an evening meal.

Occupying a rather lonely outpost on the road out of Rhyl, arguably the grimmest place on the otherwise largely delightful North Wales coast, this delectable establishment is something of a a tranquil oasis, wildly contrasting with the rather run down disposition of the town in which it is stationed.

I first became aware of the existence of Barratt's via its recent inclusion in the AA guide, which, coupled with the glowing review of Stuart from Manchester on Trip Advisor, prompted us to book a room whilst journeying from Glanrafon to Chester, having been offered the rate of £125 for two of us, for dinner, bed and breakfast.

Electing to stay for one night only, we were warmly greeted upon our arrival, furnished with tea, and shown to our quarters. Room 3 was of more than adequate size, featuring flatscreen TV and DVD player, a welcome tray that included real coffee, various snacks and several other nice little touches which further endeared us to the place.

Despite the welcoming reception, pleasant room and numerous amenities provided, the highlight of our stay by some considerable way proved to be the food. Having elected to dine in Barratt's cosy conservatory restaurant, recently awarded 2 AA rosettes, the meal far exceeded our expectations and proved to be a suprise highlight of our Christmas sojourn. The breakfast, again taken in the conservatory, was simply out of this world. We departed at 11am the next morning, sated and relatively elated, following an efficient and expedient checkout process, our bill totalling £140, which included a pleasant bottle of red which washed down the utterly delicious meal consumed the previous evening. The proprietors were friendly without being at all overbearing or intrusive.

My only slight gripe was the fact that the shower in Room 3 a touch erratic, frequently and frantically oscillating between boiling hot and icy cold. Aside from this very minor grievance, this was without doubt a wondrous stay. If ever you find yourself unlucky enough to be in Rhyl, eager to escape the endless, long abandoned holiday caravans and soulless town centre, then this place is an absolute must.

My wife was working in Rhyl and had to stay overnight to get an early start in the morning. After much searching I booked a room at Barratts of Ty^n Rhyl for her. My wife arrived at the hotel and was given a very warm welcome from the owners and a cup of tea. My wife called me and said that I should come over from Manchester and have a night away from the kids.

The room was lovely with a huge bed with a canopy and a large en-suite bathroom containing a huge roll top bath. The room also had a cafetiere, a DVD player, a TV and WiFi access. The food that was served in the restaurant was all cooked by the owner and was fantastic. It was served in a new wooden conservatory with candles on the tables (always a key part of a meal for my wife) and we had unobtrusive classical music playing in the background.

There aren't many rooms in the hotel (just three), but the service that we received was attentive without being over bearing and I would recommend this hotel and the restaurant to anyone.
