“Great family and great location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2014

I booked a room just the day before I arrived, and Oscar met me at the bus stop.
This is a great family, and Grandpa and me immediately hit it off, although I do not speak a word of spanish! I felt like a daughter in his house :-)
The family does not speak english, so we had much fun trying to make sense of our conversations (it worked somehow).
I was placed in a room with a bathroom inside the main house. It was a big room, with good closet space, and the small bathroom was nice and clean. Only one temp (luke warm) and pretty poor pressure, and good aircon. The first morning I woke up to hundreds of ants on my stuff and in my suit case. The lady of the house sprayed 'em down, and it was okay after that.
The casa has two buildings with two seperate rental rooms en-suite dispatched from the main house, and the people there said the water pressure was ok. I think these rooms are quite better than mine.
The family is in the process of building two more rooms and one restaurant in their back yard.
The location is very good, -up a street just minutes from main street, so it is relatively quiet (xcept from very noisy aircon). I would recommend this place, because of the family, but I am sure that instead of the room inside the main house, one could find something better (and probably worse). Ask for a room inside one of the other buildings.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in one of the small houses in the back yard.

We had booked to stay at Oscars, but as it was full Oscar put us up next door in a lovely casa called Leon Leon Hernandez.
The casa was situated 5 mins walk from the main road in the town, lovely quiet road. The casa was spotless, huge room, with aircon and ensuite. The front of the casa has rocking chairs on the porch where you can sit and watch the world go by.
The breakfasts were delicious, fresh coffee, fruit, eggs, bread, cakes, biscuits, ham, cheese etc.
We ate every evening at Oscar's, the food was fantastic. We had roasted pork, lobster, grilled fish, with rice, beans, salad. The food was one of the best in cuba, freshly prepared and beautifully presented.
Oscar was a very friendly host, he met us from the bus and arranged the treks and excursions that we wanted to do.
Leon Leon Hernandez the owner of the casa, was very welcoming, his breakfasts were superb, even with the lack of english we felt that Leon was attentive and made us feel very comfortable. He woke up very early to prepare us breakfast, before we got the bus.
Vinales was a lovely sleepy town, we were only there for 3 nights but wished we had stayed longer as so much to do - treks, cycling, cayo jutias and cayo levisa. It was so relaxing.
Don't book bus tickets too in advance, there are other options that do better routes than VIazul, check out cubatour as they offer transfers for the same price as viazul and pick you up from your casa.
Check out L Gallito, excellent food, but don't be inpatient, as it is prepared fresh from scratch after you order.
Best mojito and cubata, go to the bar on the corner of the main road with plastic tables/chairs in street.

Hey there, I stayed at Casa Oscar a few years ago with my wife The place was so cosy and the family simply amazing. We borrowed climbing Equipment from Oscar, received private salsa-lessons, went horse-back-riding and enjoyed the incredible great food. What more can you ask for? Friends of us stayed there last year and they say it´s still as great as it was a few years ago!

We booked four nights and stayed for two weeks. Comfortable and clean rooms, a large and friendly family, a lot of fresh and tasty food, and a relaxed atmosphere all made this a great place to stay. There is a good mix of guests, both climbers and non-climbers, and a great garden in which to socialise whilst eating. We plan to return.

Managed by the family of Oscar Jaime. Really cosy and lively place. 3 minutes walk to the main square of the village. Very safe. The food was really good, seemed to be fresh all the time to me. Breakfast and dinner is served on 2 rather big tables so you will automatically meet other travellers. We liked the positive atmosphere, the total family is running the casa and it gives you a good insight in the Cuba Vinales live. Many climbers visit this casa, we aren’t. Many travellers tot his casa combine this passion and so it is a dominant topic during breakfast and dinner. We would like to recommend this casa to other people!

If you get the chance to stay with Oscar, his wife and the entire extended family, you are about to experience the very best that Cuba has to offer. Amazing people, outstanding food (yes, really!), spic&span accommodations, and memories for lifetime. Don't miss an opportunity to stop with them, and when you reserve, tack on an extra day now... makes it easier than trying later :-).

I already stayed twice at Oscars house and I have to say, that I will never forget both of those stays. This place is just perfect. Vinales is perfect and Oscar makes it incredible!!! The House on the top of his house with your very own Terace tops it all and with oscar and his wife cooking, you are missing absoluty nothing. Oscar will take care of just about everything. Horse riding, Beach trips. best places to go to and his make excellent Mojitos!;) You will feel from the first moment that this place is a place to come home, at least for the time of your stay! I highly recommend staying at Oscars. Even when hes finished with his new plans of making the place even better than it is! Thank you Oscar for everything! Christian

One Casa Particular in Viñales is exceptional. The house, amenities, and particularly the food are excellent, but, once again, it is the family of Oscar Jaime Rodriguez and Leyda Robaina Arteaga that become your hosts, friends, and protectors. The Jaimes and Robainas families envelope you you with love and joy. The compound of several houses include grandparents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins. There are so many familly members that one must set aside time for daily Cuban ritual of shaking hands with each man and kissing all women and girls. ... more   less
