I booked a room just the day before I arrived, and Oscar met me at the bus stop.
This is a great family, and Grandpa and me immediately hit it off, although I do not speak a word of spanish! I felt like a daughter in his house :-)
The family does not speak english, so we had much fun trying to make sense of our conversations (it worked somehow).
I was placed in a room with a bathroom inside the main house. It was a big room, with good closet space, and the small bathroom was nice and clean. Only one temp (luke warm) and pretty poor pressure, and good aircon. The first morning I woke up to hundreds of ants on my stuff and in my suit case. The lady of the house sprayed 'em down, and it was okay after that.
The casa has two buildings with two seperate rental rooms en-suite dispatched from the main house, and the people there said the water pressure was ok. I think these rooms are quite better than mine.
The family is in the process of building two more rooms and one restaurant in their back yard.
The location is very good, -up a street just minutes from main street, so it is relatively quiet (xcept from very noisy aircon). I would recommend this place, because of the family, but I am sure that instead of the room inside the main house, one could find something better (and probably worse). Ask for a room inside one of the other buildings.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- One Casa Particular in Viñales is exceptional. The house, amenities, and particularly the food are excellent, but, once again, it is the family of Oscar Jaime Rodriguez and Leyda Robaina Arteaga that become your hosts, friends, and protectors. The Jaimes and Robainas families envelope you you with love and joy. The compound of several houses include grandparents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins. There are so many familly members that one must set aside time for daily Cuban ritual of shaking hands with each man and kissing all women and girls. ... more less
