“Denis is a star”

Had great fun in this place chatting with Denis. He was among the most sociable Casa owners we came across during our vacation. Excellent English and a great sense of humour. In terms of activity, just mention it and Denis knows someone who can. If you speak Spanish then his mother and elderly great-aunts are always on hand too. The two rooms are comfortable and brightly furnished to put it kindly. But, hey, this is Latin America. You don't come here for beige!
A 10 minute walk into the centre of Vinales, but all the better for that.
We had a great three night stay here after which Denis organised a taxi to take us all the way to Trinidad.

We stayed her for 4 nights in early April found it to be perfect. Dennis and his family were warm, welcoming and generous. The room was nice and spotlessly clean. The food was delicious, especially the huge breakfast, which was easily the best breakfast of anywhere we stayed in Cuba! Really enjoyed staying here and would recommend it,

The location (just a bit off the main street) was ideal - quiet and just steps from the meeting place to start the horseback ride. Everything about it works so very well - from the easy booking via email to the rooms which are spotless and comfortable. The bathrooms are the best we had in all of Cuba, large and very hot water! But it all is outdone by Carmen and Beymi's cooking. WOW! Amazing breakfasts with such variety and special touches - and wonderful dinners (we tried just about everything) with beautiful presentation and absolutely marvelous flavors. The only thing that surpassed the food - the pina coladas! Have them "natural" or dump in as much rum as you like. The boys loved the mojitos as well. You could not be better taken care of anywhere in Cuba - just ask and you shall receive - as much info as you want. Loved Denis and his family - our Vinales family!

Room Tip: Both equally good with large fridge filled with bottled water and sodas if you like (charge was same...

We stayed in this wonderful Casa for 3 nights in mid March and I can honestly say that our time spent with Denis and his family was the best experience we had during our holiday in Cuba. From start to finish every detail was perfect. When I originally made the booking Denis sent me a really kind introduction email with a map, confirmation of arrival time and lots of other useful information. This is unusual from Casa's in Cuba and was a reassuring touch. When we arrived in Vinales Denis's wife was waiting ready to take us to the house, we instantly felt so welcomed by the whole family. Our room was a really good size and overall was really quiet, comfortable, clean and had everything we needed.

There were two things that really made our stay here special, firstly was the incredible food prepared by Denis's wife and mum. It was just perfect. Everything was prepared so lovingly with beautiful presentation and tasted superb. Breakfast was a huge arrangement with fresh fruit, eggs, ham, cheese, breads and a delicious selection of cakes and pastries. We had so much food it would see you through to dinner!! Dinner was also of epic proportions, every night you would start with a fresh fruit salad, next would be the best soups ever we had chicken noodle, yellow bean, and spiced butternut squash. Delicious!! Every morning you could choose what you wanted for main course, we had Lobster, chicken and fish. All cooked with so much flavour and was a real representation of true Cuban cooking, dishes that the family had been cooking and eating for years. Dessert was also fantastic, with creme caramel flan and chocolate mousse. All I can say is wow! If you stay here definitely eat at the Casa you will not regret it and would not find better food anywhere in Vinales!

The other amazing part of our stay was meeting Denis. He was our favourite person in all of Cuba. We had two nights staying up chatting with him and laughing together. His English is fantastic and he really helped me lots with improving my Spanish too. He is so funny and interesting and will do anything to make you stay with him and in Cuba the best he can. He arranged a walking tour of the tabacco fields and the next day one of his friends who was also really nice took us to all the sights and attractions in Vinales. He even arranged accommodation in Cienfuegos for us and called us later in our holiday to make sure that we were having a good time and were happy with where we staying. Nothing was too much trouble for him. I really feel that we made a good friend and were adopted by a lovely Cuban family.

Honestly I could not recommend this Casa enough. It was the perfect stay and we will have amazing lasting memories of our time at Casa Hostal Tres Caballeros When we go back to Cuba we will 100% go to visit Denis and his family. If you are planning a visit you can contact Denis on his direct email address which is: cl1gw@frcuba.co.cu or call him direct on 58188220.

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights which gave us sufficient time to explore the area in some detail. We went horseback riding in the valley, visited the Cayo Juias and the Cayo Levista beaches and the cave of Santo Tomas, did a bycicling trip on the road to Rancho San Vicente, looked at the Mural de la Prehistoria (a bit disappointing), had a nice 4km walk back from Hotel Las Jazmines and could not escape the sights and sounds of the annual carnival which coincided with our stay.
Hostal Tres Caballeros is a perfect base for all of these activities. It it located at the outskirts of the town which means that the setting is rural and therefore quiet and that it requires a 5 minute walk to reach the center of town. In our case there was the added advantage that we were somewhat away from the nightly music noise of the carnival that lasted for 4 nights (easily to 4 am) and days. And noise really means noise. Fortunately, with the airco sound fading out most of this noise, we managed to sleep relatively well.
The hosts, Denis, his wife and his mother could not be more pleasing and attentive. Breakfast was always abundant with a fruit platter (fruit always being cut in an artful way), fruit juice, good coffee, sweet cakes etc. We had dinner here as well, partially beacuse we didn't want to have dinner in the town restaurants during carnival but certainly also beacuse of the quality offered at the casa. Wife, mother and Denis himself together pepare fantastic dinners with a daily choice of fish, lobster, chicken and pig meat. As we stayed 4 nights we could enjoy all of these choices. The lobster enchilada in particular was a very tasty experience.
The room itself is spacious (as is the bathroom), contains two big beds with good matresses, a fine working airco, a separate fan and a well stocked refrigerator. Room and bathroom are flawlessly clean and the bathroom is well tiled. The water pressure is low but we found this to be the case in all casa's where we stayed.
The rooms are in a separate wing of the house which means you have a lot of privacy. In front of each room are lounge chairs where you can sip the perfect pina colada's and mojito's prepared by Denis mother. Breakfast and dinner are served in a separate outside but covered area behind the rooms.
Denis speaks English well and is a great conversationalist who likes to discuss any topic with you. A special word of thanks to Denis' mother who was always around when you need something, who clearly takes pride in doing things well (and succeeds in that) and is always around from early in the morning to late in the evening.
When returning to Vinales we shall have no doubts whatsoever in retruning to this casa as well.

On our trip to Cuba, february -march 2014 , we stayed in Vinales at Hostal Tres Caballeros. Wise choice! It was the best accommodation of the six we had in the two weeks.Denis and his family was extraordinary hosts , the room was very comfortable , clean and quiet . The food made by Denis´s mother and his wife was
absolutely stunning , here I ate the best chicken in my life. Denis speaks good english and can arange horse riding , visit at tobaco farm , etc .
He offered us a cd with wonderful cuban music : Guacacha Son - El sonador .... listen it every day.
I already miss delicious chicken(repet - best i ever eat) cooked by Denis mother and the discussions with him smoking a cigar and drinking rum in the evening.
I proudly recommend Hostal Tres Caballeros , Denis and his family such a good hosts and such a good peope !

The family of Denis is very friendly and welcoming, rooms and bathrooms are big and clean - and food is so much better than anything you can get in town. So eat here! Best Cuban breakfast ever, and dinner is equally great, with lots of sidedishes, dessert, fruits and soup. They can arrange hikes, horse tours and whatever you need. We went with Carlos and Raidel on longer walks and by horse and enjoyed that a lot.

Because we wanted to stay longer, we've moved across the street to Denis' brothers casa "Boris y Cusita" - which is 5 $ cheaper (rooms smaller and less modern), but also a very nice, friendly place. And as the rooms are located on the upper floor, you have a gorgeous terrasse with a view on the Mongotes for yourself - which we enjoyed a lot!

Both places are off the main street, but we didn't mind the 5-10 minutes walking to the main plaza. The only downside are the cocks which managed to wake us up early every morning. But most people here have chicken, so that's probably hard to avoid in Vinales. Anyway, bring good earplugs!

And, finally, a SCAM WARNING: Don't book taxi service to Havanna, Trinidad or Cienfuegos at the taxi stand on the main plaza. They've promised us 2 seats in a car (sharing with two other people) for 15 $ per person. Next morning, a 20-seater run-down vintage bus showed up, collecting us and then, over the next 40 minutes, everyone else from Vinales. The guys running it are sort of jiniteiros - forcing you to pay immediately, brushing of all complaints. In the end, we ended up in Havanna late, in an uncomfortable, not air-conditioned and freaky unsafe bus, for 3 $ more than the very comfortable Transtur mini-bus. Take the bus or book a taxi at one of the travel agencies!!!

Room Tip: They have just 2 rooms, both equally good.
