“Planing trip to Dominica? Do not miss Pagua bay house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2011

My wife and I planed a 5 day trip to Dominica while staying at Guadaloupe. The island is way different and laid back compared to neighbouring french islands. We arrived to Rosseau, fetched a car and took the inner route to Marigot. And got hit by amasing and warmest hospitality of Alicia and Rick. Both americans and very welcoming in their restaurant on the hill overlooking the Pagua bay. The cabins are all planned and constructed by the owners and are amasing, nicely arranged, private and with interesting fusion of neocolonial and south american style. Staying there was so pleasant that it took as a while before leaving each morning to discover the rest of island beauties. The cabins are down the hill from the restaurant just steps away from the bay (not really a swiming place). There is a constant breeze from the ocean, which may get a bit noisy durring the night but on the other hand very charming and mesmerizing. And on top of that the owners made our trip to Dominica unforgetable. Rick is a source of valuable information when it comes to sightseeing and dining, while Alicia takes care that the guests are never hungry. Ask for home made pepper sauce (not the Bello brand!). Enjoy!

Alica and Rick are great and helpfull. We made use of the great beach stuff they borrowed us (cayak, boards) & had a lot of fun at the river beach close by.
The cabana was excellently maintained and had all the things we could have wanted (coffee maker, safe,..)
We loved the style and would definitely recommend the Pagua Bay House as a great base for northern Dominica.

On the island of Dominica there are a number of nice places to stay, and we have stayed at many of them over the years. None have ever left us feeling more welcome, comfortable, and as ready to return as Pagua Bay Cabanas. The owners, Alicia and Rick, have put their heart and soul into creating a very special place for travelers to easily stop and stay upon arrival to the island. The location is also convenient when embarking on many of the wonderful journeys the island has to offer. (Alicia is a great concierge;)
The property has the rustic authenticity and organic feel of the island while providing a truly comfortable and lovely aesthetic quality in each of the cabanas - all of them built and designed by Rick and Alicia, working alongside the local natives. We stayed in two different cabanas during our visit and each was special in it’s own way. The beds are plush and comfortable, the oversized showers are great, the food is delicious, and the view from their nearby restaurant deck is spectacular.
All of this is the result of two highly dedicated, energetic people passionately giving it their all. We absolutely loved our stay and we look forward to our return visit.

Pagua Bay stood out to us due to their great website and amazing tripadvisor reviews. Luckily for us, we found the reviews to be very accurate! The property is only 20 minutes away from the airport (and they picked us up in their Land Rover upon landing!).

After pickup, we were driven to their restaurant, just a half mile away from the cabanas. The food was amazing and the views were even better. We ended up spending every night here and also most breakfasts and lunches when we were cruising up and down the island or exploring with our driver (The hotel also provides a charming and professional driver/tour guide for a fee.)

The rooms are very nice, we'd recommend staying in Cabana 3 or 4, which are the private secluded cabanas with hammocks and great views! From your cabana, you can walk to an ocean bay, which has gorgeous but mostly rough waters, or to a river, which is nice to float on in the Pagua-provided kayak or innertubes.

Local attractions include the Carib Territory to the south, beautiful waterfalls toward the interior, and a few stunning beaches to the north as well as the castle shown in "Pirates of the Caribbean." The hotel is, however, far away from the big city of Roseau, and if you do stay here prepare to be secluded, with limited options for dining and excursions: the island is fairly small, but the roads are bad and limit travel speed. But if you want to relax be pampered hand and foot, with delicious foods, the finest linens, modern rooms, and the stunning views of an unspoiled coastline right in front of you, this is your place!

Room Tip: 1+2 for a group/family, 3 or 4 for couples

We just came back from the Pagua Bay where we stayed for a week. We travel a lot and have high expectations from the places we stay at in terms of comfort and originality.... and we were delighted with everything at the Pagua Bay. Beautiful rooms, lots of privacy yet the owners are ALWAYS there to answer questions, help, give really good advices on what to see and do on the beatiful island of Dominica.... the food at the restaurant is very good. It's hard to put into words but we will always remember it as a special place, not just "one other nice hotel on a tropical island".
We hope to go back as soon as we can!

Pagua Bay was absolutely amazing. No question or doubt about it. My girlfriend is a medical student at Ross and had been to the restaurant several times, so they knew her pretty well. The treatment was great, I've never been so well taken care of before. The food and drinks were incredible. I recommend the bacon egg and cheese breakfast (complete with homemade rolls), their chips and salsa, the chicken tacos, and coconut rum punch. The view from the restaurant was phenomenal and the hotel/cottages looked right out over the bay. We had an absolute blast. I would go back in a heartbeat.

We LOVED Pagua Bay House! Not only was our cabana private & tastefully designed with fabulous finishes, it was in a lovely location with quick access ( short drive ) to Pagua Bay Bar and Grill, where we had the best food of our trip. Rick and Alicia were gracious and willing to do and help with anything needed. We'd go back to Dominica just to stay there!!
