“Wonderful hospitality”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2012

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in early March. The owners, American expats, were some of the nicest, most accommodating people we’ve ever interacted with at a resort or hotel. They were truly invested in making sure our stay was pleasant.

The hotel restaurant, which is a mile or so up the road from the cabanas, was excellent. We ate there several times and had only great meals.

The cabanas are well-appointed with a super comfy bed, nice furnishings, a large bathroom, walk-in closet and cable TV. The aesthetic is very modern, which we liked. The room was a little dark, especially the first day we were there because we had the windows closed (it was a rare chilly, rainy day).

The owners are in the process of expanding the resort, and it sounds like it will be even more fantastic once completed. There was a little construction going on during our stay, which didn’t really affect us, but the owners discounted our room, none the less.

The experience is complete. Waking up, going to sleep and be located as close to the sound of waves constant is wonderful. In addition, the owners, Rick & Alicia, the most exquisite hosts a hotel may have. Their incredible hospitality and their exclusive cuisine and great service restaurants made us want us back immediately. We will definitely go back when the rebuilding of the site is ready! If you are very sensitive to noise at night, remember that you are surrounded by the sound from the ocean. (You have to try their breakfastburrito when you go there!)

We spent a night at Pagua Bay as we had an early flight off the island in the morning and it's located 5 minutes from the airport. Upon arriival at 3pm we were told there had been a late check out and our room wouldn't be ready for an hour. We did get our room at 4pm. Right outside our door was a major construction zone. We had not been told. the restaurant is located a 5 minute drive up the hill. Unless you had your own rental, it requires them to pick up and drop off each and every time. Rather odd. The rooms themselves are fantastic. Brilliantly designed, and very, very comfortable. Overall we felt like there was very little connection or care from the staff - they did what they had to do.

I applaud what Alicia and Rick are trying to do. Its a great island. They have all the right ingredients. All that's missing is the service attention to go with accommodation quality.

Pagua Bay deserves all of the accolades contained in these reviews. Rick and Alisha are a first class couple that have the talent to manage a big scale luxury resort. Instead they choose to use their talents and very engaging personalities to run one of the finest small scale boutique properties that you will find on Dominica. You will not be disappointed with Pagua Bay.

My fiance and I stayed here for our 4 days in Dominica.
We arrived at 08:30 in the morning and were offered to check in early which was a great start.
The rooms are the perfect mix of modern and rustic to give the relaxing atmosphere. The beds are the most comfortable Ive have slept in any hotel that I can remember. The hammocks outside are a great addition.
The hosts Ric and Alicia really make this place, we felt so at home. They even set us up with a cooler each day loaded with cold beers and water for the day of exploring. We didn't venture to far, the northern end of the island is great, good roads and the nicest people.
The only problem with this place - we didn't want to leave and explore the island !

This is the place to stay in Dominica. You wont be disapointed !

Lets just say, we planned on staying for two nights and extended it to five. We not only fell in love with Dominica but the proprietors, Rick and Alicia. We wanted a true "local" experience, sipping rum punch, hiking and just simply-taking it easy. We got it all. From hiking to the boiling lake (second largest in the world) to playing Dominos with the locals; we experienced this Caribbean island to its fullest.
As previously mentioned, this is hiking paradise. It has an amazing rain forest, trails to waterfalls and hot springs. The Dominican vibe is super laid back (unlike Barbados). It reminds me of Costa Rica before the US invasion :) We didn't mind coordinating our pick ups for the restaurant and walked back (down hill) a couple of times. I wouldn't recommend this for everyone (cars pass is narrow) but we enjoyed it. The restaurant, I would suggest eating the crunch salad, breakfast burritos, goat tacos and ceviche. Most of the food is organically grown and community sustained... love that!
Our cabana was tastefully decorated with lovely sheets and cozy beds. I also enjoyed, their decision to bring some of the tin exteriors as an architectural motif, which you see throughout the island. Bravo, we will return and can't wait to see the new cabanas and restaurant.

Room Tip: We stayed in 4, has the most privacy.

Let me start by saying Dominica is one, if not THE, most beautiful places in the world! And if you want an AMAZING place to stay with fantastic service and accommodationa... look no further than Pagua Bay House. Rick & Alicia made our stay so comfortable and they took care of our every need. They have a great knowledge of all the fantastic sights on the island and have an amazing staff (thanks Al!) to take you to see those beautiful spots. It is our recommendation to let someone guide you the first time you visit the island so you don't miss a thing (Rick and Alica provided a driver & guide for us each day). The Carib Village, the Emerald Pool, Spinney Falls, a strenuous hike (not for the faint of heart!) to the Boiling Lake, a great day trip to Calibishie to see Red Rocks and Red Rock Haven Beach, Sari Sari Falls... the list is endless and we didn't even reach what are supposed to be the most beautiful falls on the island or what is talked aboout as an amazing snorkeling spot at Champagne Beach. So... this means we have to go back and I can guarantee you that when we do we woudn't think of staying ANYWHERE ELSE but at Pagua Bay House! If you want beautiful accommodations in a setting of unbridled, rugged beauty... if you want amazing food... if you want to be guided to amazing sights and gorgeous views... if you want to feel as comfortable as you do at home... Pagua Bay House & Pagua Bay Bar & Grill (a short 1/2 mile walk away or quick drive up the hill) is the place for you! Thanks Rick, Alica, Al, & Jesse for making our stay one of the best vacations we have ever had the privilege to enjoy! I can't say enough about this amazing place and the great folks running it!

Room Tip: Any of the room at Pagua Bay are great. We stayed in cabana #4 which was a bit more private.
