We will forever hold a special place in our hearts for Alicia, Rick and the team at Pagua Bay. I called from the UK with a unique request... ' can we have our wedding at Pagua Bay the response from Alicia with no hesitation was we have never done a wedding but sure! The next few months or was it weeks...Alicia and the team helped us with every detail of my day. We arrived and were welcomed nerves were calmed and everything on the four days we stayed was all we wished for and so much more.... I can confidently say that there is nowhere in the carribean (we
went on to Antigua for our honeymoon and wished we were back in dominica!) to match their warm and caring hearts...when you stay at Pagua Bay you are sure to return.....thank you so much from the bottom of my heart Alicia and Rick for the most perfect stay and day xxxxx

We stayed in Pagua Bay for a few days in January. Like with so many other travellers LIAT didn't exactly help us reaching our destination, but when we did finally get there, our hosts Alicia and Rick showed their best. We managed to do most of the things we intended to do thanks to their excellent advise and assistance.
We had to stay an extra night, thanks to LIAT, which we were granted free of charge because of our late arrival. Service at its best!
We very much enjoyed our stay, the restaurant is excellent and the staff is super-friendly.
Alicia and Rick run a small hotel, and manage to give all their guest that little bit of extra attention which makes a stay at Pagua Bay one of the most memorable in our travels so far.
Dominica is a gem in the Caribbean, and Pagua Bay an excellent place from which to explore the island.
Avoid flights that arrive on or depart from Dominica after 17.00 hrs, they are very often cancelled because of windy conditions. Try the ferry from Guadeloupe or St.Lucia as an alternative.
Contact Pagua Bay direct for reservations, you might be lucky and get a better deal.

We have spent 4 days in Dominica in occasion of my big birthday. The days at Pagua bay have been fabulous. Alicia and Rick are very dedicated and professional hosts, with a touch of warm and personal attention. Their staff is competent and extremely pleasant. We got a lot of advice on what to do. After a bath in the Emerald pool I feel indeed 10 years younger. We could not have found a better place! and Dominica is a piece of paradise on earth!

Room Tip: we stayed in cabana 2, it was very nice with a huge shower.

My wife and I stayed here for a few days around christmas. We had some trouble getting to Dominica (avoid LIAT), but Alicia, Rick, and their crew made sure we enjoyed our stay once we got here. This is a high quality hotel (it shows in the price) – all materials used in building the cabanas and the restaurant are carefully chosen and put together very tastefully. I loved discussing architectural aspects with Rick, who built the place together with master builder Mike. Service at PBH is terrific – the team make you feel special. Rick and Alicia took a lot of time to figure out what we wanted to do and to give us tips on where to go. The food was delicious, and the drinks were strong (Centipede Rum Punch – yeaaah!). The atmosphere is very familial, there is a beautiful cuddly dog, and the other guests were very nice as well (I love to spend an evening with random and interesting people).
If there is one thing I could change: I'd bury the power cable that kind of spoils the view across the bay. I didn't notice it at first, but then I had to look at it all the time and couldn't unsee it. (This shows how pedantic I am).
All in all, this was a great place for us to relax, shed the weight of the past year and gain new strength. We would love to come again.

Room Tip: We stayed in cabana 3 and found it to be great.

My wife and I visited Dominica for the first time this past January for a 6 day stay. Unfortunately, Pagua Bay House was only available for 5 days and every other hotel I contacted stated that they required a 2 night minimum. But, fortunately the owners of Paqua Bay House (Rick and Alicia) used their influence to convince a nearby establishment to bend the rules and take us for one night. Kudos to them for the help. The place that they found for us was very nice (Calibishie Cove), but we liked Pagua Bay House much better. We knew we would be arriving late on first night so Alicia offered via her email to prepare us whatever we might want from their menu and leave it in the room for us. We opted for sandwiches since we figured they would “keep better” since we knew the kitchen would be long closed before we arrived. Kudos again. All the food that we had at their restaurant was excellent (mostly we ate salads, appetizers, sandwiches, breakfasts). Note that we never ordered any entrees there due to the large lunches we seemed to have every day. The centipede rum punches served at Pagua are excellent as well as potent. After two, you probably don’t want to drive anywhere. When not eating on premises, a good place to go is the Rainbow in Calibishie.

The staff at Pagua Bay is also excellent. We both enjoyed our conversations not only with Alicia and Rick but also with Jenny and Laureen. There is a dog on premises (Sarafina ...not sure of spelling); she was very friendly and hung out with me at night when I’d seat outside and read. We stayed in Room 5 which has a large outside area with a large sofa as well as a splash pool (probably pictures on internet). The hotel location is in a central area almost equal distances to most of the places you want to go, and very close to airport (but if you arrive at night you may want to take a taxi from airport to hotel even though it’s a direct trip....just easier unless you are already familiar with the roads). Rick and Alicia are both very good at orienting you and telling you about the various sites around the island. Take your sneakers with you when you go out on an excursion as sandals are not the best footwear for some of the places you might go. Spanny’s Falls was our favorite place along with Red Rocks. Driving on the island is not bad in day time but a bit more challenging at night. Roads are typical of many Caribbean islands having an assortment of potholes. People are very friendly and helpful. If you ask for directions, they will give them to you at least twice to make sure you understood them. Also, get into a conversation with a local and you may know their life story pretty soon.

Great place. Great time. And there’s always the question “where would you stay if you were to go back to Dominica?” We wouldn’t even bother to look around....it would automatically be the Pagua Bay House.

My wife and I stopped by Pagua Bay House for lunch last week during our Dominica vacation. This is a delightful place! The staff were welcoming and friendly, great view across the bay, nice contemporary architecture - simple, understated, clean lines - in short well worth the visit. My wife had the coconut shrimp - crisp and cooked perfectly. I had the goat taco and it was excellent! Just enough goat meat to flavor and not overwhelm the flavor combination. I saw a complaint on this site about the dog - misplaced in my opinion. She didn't bother us or the other diners at all - friendly and unobtrusive, she has a story as well (the last of the strays that were at the restaurant's prior location who were all adopted out - she's looking for a forever home.) Highly recommend a visit!

My husband and I booked 3 nights at Pagua Bay at the last minute, just a day before our arrival, based on its excellent Tripadvisor review. Thank you, Tripadvisor, for this absolute gem of a recommendation!

Having read a lot of the reviews here, I must start by agreeing that the owners, Rick and Alicia, were super helpful and lovely. Just after we checked in, they had to leave on a trip and we were left in the very capable hands of the amazing staff at Pagua Bay for the rest of our stay. Not once did we feel like the staff were giving us poor service because the owners were away. Laureen, Gaby, Jenni, Mike--every single person working at Pagua Bay went out of their way to make sure that we had an incredible time. We were so well taken care of!

Our private little honeymoon suite, Cabana 1, was closest to the ocean and we were treated to the soothing sound of the waves all day and night, with very little other noise despite our relative proximity to the the road. The cabana was gorgeous--beautiful hardwood floors, poured concrete sink and countertop spaces, soft towels and robes, and the most comfortable king-sized bed complete with a heavenly feather mattress topper.

Wifi works great in the restaurant and pool area; since Cabana 1 is furthest from the router we couldn't get a signal in our room but that was fine by us. It was a very quick walk up to the bar when we needed to check our email.

Speaking of the bar, the cocktails are delicious! We tried the Centipede Rum Punch (a strong drink!) and the Coconut Peanut Punch (like a peanut butter milkshake--deliciously decadent). In our three days at Pagua we ate 3 meals a day at the restaurant and everything was delicious. Standouts include the fish tacos, homemade bagels, and delicious mahi-mahi.

An hour-long tube-ride down a nearby river is complimentary for guests, and is a fun way to spend an afternoon! The current in Pagua Bay is very strong, so you wouldn't attempt to swim there but there are lots of great swimming spots in the local rivers and Pagua Bay House has a fantastic pool overlooking the bay if you just need a quick dip on a hot day.

The hotel staff arranged to have a rental car brought to the hotel for us on our last day at Pagua, so we could explore the island en route to our next destination. It was the quickest and most painless car rental experience ever!

The hotel is so close to Melville Hall airport that the location is super convenient as your first stop on the way into Dominica or your last stop before you leave.

We couldn't have asked for anything more from our stay at Pagua Bay, and we can't wait to return!

Room Tip: If you like the sound of waves crashing, request cabana 1 or 2 (closest to the ocean).
