Apples and Quails Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #3 of 21 Summerland B&B and Inns
Reviewed 13 July 2013

We had not travelled to the Okanagan Region for many years. What a great surprise to see the wine country that has developed. Summerland is perfectly situated to explore many of the region. Walter and Ming, are fantastic hosts!! Their B+B was everything we hoped it would be: Charming, relaxing, large well appointed room with a beautiful view to the lake. This property was designed and built to be a B+B giving you the access and privacy of a hotel, with the charm and personality of a B+B. The Breakfast as many have noted is EXCELLENT. It is a perfect start to your day of exploring and it is also a great place to end your day. We were travelling with another couple; we booked the Qual's Nest and Country Blue Rooms which are located onto your own walk out balcony. In addition there is also your own private living room area to "hang out" in. We would highly recommend Apples and Quails - we look forward to our next stay with Walter + Ming.

This B&B is the best!!! Ming and Walter are so welcoming and friendly, we really enjoyed our our 2 night stay here. We stayed in the country blue room, it was large and lovely, very romantic!! We had french doors going to the balcony where we had a great view of Okanagan Lake, there was a hot tub a few steps off the balcony, which we also enjoyed!! We also took advantage of the common room where there were sofas to relax on, and a kitchen area with full size fridge and coffee and tea, even home made granola bars for us to enjoy!! The DVD library was right up to date if you wanted to view a DVD on your flat screen TV in the privacy of your bedroom. Everything about this B&B was sparkling, special and amazing!!! The details in the room were awesome and we appreciated the care and thought that went into making our stay a wonderful experience. And then there were the absolutely delicious breakfasts, such variety and lots of choices and lots of coffee, and other beverages too. We dined with another couple the first morning in their lovely kitchen and the second morning out on their patio off the kitchen, where there was another beautiful view. The breakfast that morning was to die for, with fresh fruit salad to start and featuring crepes with special whipping cream and sauteed apples, even with a carved quail from an apple on the side. Amazing work of art Walter!!! We appreciated the fresh flowers in our room and on our breakfast table; and the lovely magnolia tree, hydrangea shrubs, grape vines, apple trees and other lovely foliage in the yard, and of course I can't forget the quails, yes, we saw many quails around the yard also!!! So yes, this B&B is definitely unforgettable, more than we ever expected or have ever stayed in to date, and so thank you so much Ming and Walter!!! Also thank you for the stimulating and interesting conversations that we enjoyed with you both and those excellent and yummy muffins that you sent with us as we continued our travels.

Room Tip: We saw all the rooms and they all looked wonderful. Just depends whether you want a free standing t...

I stayed here 2 nights in May as part of a weekend winery trip. Walter and Ming were very welcoming, always interested to hear about our day and recommend restaurants, etc. The breakfast is amazing and plentiful - the night before you get to choose what you want including coffee/tea, juice, fruit salad, oatmeal, muffins, homemade bread (cinnamond raisin was my favorite!), turkey sausages, granola and a choice from 2 mains that change daily. Very delicious and filling.

The location is in the hills above Summerland, close to Giants Head Mountain if you feel like doing some exercise or want to drive up for a view of the area. Its a good location to access many wineries - about 40 min drive to Kelowna, minutes from all the Summerland wineries, about 20 minutes from Naramata Bench, 45 minutes from Okanagan Falls and 1 hr from Oliver.

The pictures are exactly what it looks like - very clean and meticulous.

Bonus is the hot tub available for use.

Room Tip: The Country Blue and Quail's Nest rooms open onto a shared living area and share a fridge, deck...

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit! We have stayed in B&B's all over North America as well as in the UK. Nowhere else can compare to the generous hospitality provided by Ming and Walter. Their home is beautifully appointed, modern and most importantly provides a calm, serene atmosphere. The views from the veranda outside our room over Lake Okanagon were spectacular, inspiring us to take the trip up the adjacent hill in Giants Head Park to see even grander vistas! Do not miss the incredible breakfasts sitting either in the kitchen dinette or on the patio, both with views of the sun rising over the mountain tops. A wonderful retreat.

Room Tip: Country Blue has a private access to the veranda and a huge bathroom.

We stayed in the Apples & Spice room over the August long weekend this year. We typically stay in Naramata when we come to this area; however, we couldn't find anywhere good to stay there so decided to try this B&B and boy were we glad we did! The owners were super friendly and helpful but not in your face. They give you 3 choices for what you want for your breakfast main as well as a number of other options you can have as well (e.g. toast, sausages, granola, fruit salad, yoghurt) as well as a yummy juice blend and tons of coffee or tea. On our last day, Walter made adorable quails carved from apples for everyone who'd ordered the crepes (there were about 5 people who had so he was carving up a storm before everyone came for breakfast!) They let us use their fridge for the random wine & cheese we had picked up along the way and even gave us a nice cherry desert one night. They always left chocolates by the bedside, which was a nice treat. The rooms are charming and clean and the owners were happy to make restaurant recommendations as well as to book reservations for us. They gave us each a treat for the road as well, which was really thoughtful. We saw a ton of quails while we were there and of course there is an apple tree, so the name is fitting. The yard is pretty and there are great views off the deck. We didn't use the hot tub as it was boiling hot in Summerland while we were there, but it looked nice. They gave us the deck to ourselves for our 5th anniversary breakfast and even had a flower at our table, so it was a lovely touch. Thanks for a great stay! We definitely recommend Apples & Quails!

Room Tip: we stayed in the Apples & Spice room - very cute and quiet!

Ming and Walter greeted us so warmly at the front door of their lovely home that we immediately felt welcome. Our room, “Country Blue” was spacious, comfortable and luxurious. The ensuite bathroom was huge and included a shower and a free standing bath. We had direct access to a deck with amazing views across to Okanagan Lake. We also had use of an adjoining living area which gave us so much space. Ming and Walter love to cook and this was exemplified in their breakfasts – something different every day with a wide choice and home baked bread and other goodies in the ‘surprise breakfast basket’. Ming even cooked us treats for supper which were waiting for us each evening. They recommended “Bonitas” for dinner which was a great tip and worth a visit – only 5 mins away by car.

We give Ming and Walter at Apples and Quails 11/10 for a memorable experience which will remain a highlight of our stay in Canada.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Apples & Quails last summer after our daughter's wedding in Vancouver. Firstly Summerland is a great spot.. away from the hussle and bussle of Kelowna. Elaine and Chris are warm and friendly but also give you your personal space. Every thing was to perfection.. the room, the chocolate treats on the pillow, the tea and homemade goodies in the evening, AND the breakfast! Wow, gourmet!! We also met two lovely, interesting couples during our stay.. one couple who are regulars and the other couple trying Apples and Quails for the first time (like us). I hope we can return one day!
