“Wonderful Return Visit”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

My husband and I returned to Apples and Quails this year after a wonderful stay last year. Ming and Walter were so welcoming. We felt like we were returning to our ‘home away from home.’ We were greeted with a delicious Cherry Clafouti, baked by Ming.

Our room was so cozy and just as we remembered it! We stayed in the Quail’s Nest. There are so many nice little touches that show how much Ming and Walter care about the comfort of their guests. They have Lindor chocolates on the pillows, handmade bath salts, soap, and bubble bath in the bathroom, and an emergency kit filled with toothbrushes, razors, etc. in case you have forgotten something.

The Living Room area is stocked with tea, coffee, cream, and homemade snacks including cookies and dried apples. This is really nice to have access to throughout the day!

Breakfast was delicious and huge! We were given a choice of two main courses each day, and plenty of extras. On our first morning, we opted for fruit salad, toast with preserves, and a poached egg with lox on zucchini fritters. The second morning we had egg blossoms, which were so tasty that I asked for the recipe so that I could try making them at home!

Overall, our stay at Apples and Quails was wonderful. We had a really nice time and were so happy to be back. We really look forward to our next visit!

Room Tip: We love the Quail's Nest room, but Country Blue is very nice too!

Thanks, Ming and Walter for your contribution to 2 days of awesomeness! What a beautuful, relaxing place you have created. The food was just fantastic and you could not beat our surroundings - inside and out. Hats off to the quails too, for providing 5-star entertainment! Your winery suggestions were spot on, and the view from our hike to the top of Goat's Head was delightful. We brought our own wonderful company, and combined with your touches we had a mini holiday that will be remembered forever. We will be back, and I am sure you will host many of our referrals.

We spent 2 nights at Apples and Quails and found it to far exceed our expectations. Ming and Walter are so genuine and friendly that you feel comfortable with them right away. It is obvious that they are in the B and B business because they love it.
The view from the Country Blue room was breathtaking and we enjoyed sitting on the deck taking it in. The grounds and the home itself are impeccably clean. We stayed in the Country Blue room - the linens were so luxurious and the bathroom was huge. We travelled with another couple so were able to enjoy the hot tub and the living room area together.
The breakfasts were delicious - you are given a menu the day prior and can pick from two main breakfasts along with many different sides. I recommend the home made granola for sure!
The B and B is aptly named as there are quails running all over the property. There were many baby quail as well which were fascinating to watch.
If you enjoy hiking there is a great trail starting just steps from the B and B. We hiked up to the top of Giants Head Mountain one morning before our breakfast. The view from the top was amazing.
We only choose B and B's when we travel and have been to quite a number but this one is by far one of the nicest. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Apples & Quails. We stayed for three nights this August – two in the Country Blue room and one night in the smaller Apples ‘n Spice room. Our hosts, Ming and Walter, were very friendly and attentive, taking the time to get to know each guest. The breakfast was delicious – we had daily choices with both sweet and savoury, and any special dietary request was accommodated. Out of the two rooms we stayed in, we like Country Blue the best. It was quite a large private room with a shared common living room and spacious patio. Even with other guests, the living room provided a buffer so we felt quite secluded and the patio was set up with intimate seating arrangements for each suite. The whole BnB was immaculately clean and well appointed with comfortable, high quality bedding, a lovely tub and shower, cute decorations, and chocolates on the bed each night. The mornings and evenings spent on the patio or in the garden, watching the quail families and the spectacular view with our coffees or glasses of wine were so relaxing. The Apples ‘n Spice room upstairs was as well appointed with linens and furniture, albeit in a smaller space tucked off the kitchen and main entrance. Some of the touches that made this BnB stand out were the delicious daily treats provided upon our return later in the day, the wholesome homemade muffins and fruit leather sent with us to fortify us on our hikes and tours, the amazing breakfasts and, most importantly, the two hosts who astutely anticipated other touches to make our stay pleasurable, like setting out dishes for one evening’s picnic on the deck. Overall, Apples & Quails comes highly recommended by us, so much so that we are planning another stay there next summer!

All of the wonderful reviews for Apples and Quails did not lie - this B&B was everything we had hoped for and more. We spent two nights with Ming and Walter and never wanted to leave! The house itself has a stunning view over Summerland which was a welcome sight every morning. Along with the view was an amazing breakfast that was beautifully (and deliciously) prepared. They were even kind enough to work with our dietary needs which was very much appreciated. We happened to be there on our own so we had full run of all amenities - common room with fireplace, kitchen (with fresh baked cookies and dried apples), hot tub, porch, dvds, etc. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel at home and were completely comfortable. Our room - The Quail's Nest - was perfect. The most amazing bed accompanied by a cute window seat really made our stay. The large bathroom (with a soaker tub!) was the perfect size for us to share. We will absolutely return to Apples and Quails and can't thank Ming and Walter enough for the perfect end to our trip.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Quail's Nest room and could not have been happier although we're sure all o...

From the minute we arrived to the time we left, Ming and Walter did everything to make our stay welcoming, comfortable and delicious. Their home is situated on Giant's Head, with a spectacular view from every room, including the balconies, of the Okanagan Lake and surrounding hills. The bedrooms are tastefully appointed, private and comfortable. Ming and Walter are gracious and thoughtful without being imposing. We particularly appreciated being able to make choices about our breakfast on a menu provided the night before and served the following morning, on the balcony overlooking the lake. Three families of quail in the garden provided delightful dining entertainment.
We would highly recommend a few delights of Summerland and surrounding areas. True Grain Bread and SASS boutique on Main Street; The Summerland Ornamental Gardens; and the Linden Gardens in Kaleden and the Vanilla Pod at Poplar Grove Winery in Penticton.
Ming and Walter are exemplary hosts and provide a home away from home that is a delight to the senses.
