My husband and I enjoyed our suite on the second floor. It was large with a king-sized bed and a large balcony with a direct ocean view. Although we were disappointed that the wireless internet was unavailable the first few days, we realized that it was through no fault of the managers. Once it was restored, we had good internet service. The apartment house is a short walk from downtown, in a very quiet area of the beach. The balcony is the perfect place to read and relax of to sunbathe, but it also has shade when you want it, making it my favorite part of the unit.

My only recommendation is that a few hooks of some type be installed in the bathroom, since there is almost no place to hang a wet towel or a bathrobe.

We stay in the second floor (left) apartment for five nights. The hosts were lovely and very accommodating. King size bed was very comfortable and the patio was a wonderful place to just hang out. Loved walking on the beach, swimming in the ocean or just watching the pelicans dive for fish. Truly a restful vacation. At our request, our driver to Holbox made a stop at an ATM so we made sure we had enough money prior to getting to the ferry.

The Holbox upstairs apartment was even more lovely than the pictures showed. The view and sunset were spectacular. Having a fridge is such an extra treat. The shaded palapas out front with comfortable chaise lounges were great for reading and protection from the sun. The ocean out front was warm and clean. Either direction offers a great walk, the one to the west brought us to a remote area full of gorgeous birds. In fact this island has so many interesting shore birds. The apartment is clean, spacious (his/hers closets), with a very comfortable bed. An extra treat were the turqoise beach towels. The caretakers are kind and polite. Do bring insect repellent. We look forward to our next visit!

We spent the last week of a 5 month trip through South and Central America at Holbox Apartments.
Our (upper floor) apartment was wonderful - just as indicated by the pictures and video that we had seen. The apartment was spacious and well fitted out - The fridge made keeping those "delivered to the door" beers nice and cold.
Adla and Mattias were wonderful hosts - offering great advice on what to do and where to go, as well as more practical help like getting beers in the fridge and hunting down a working ATM (take enough cash with you for your stay).
Of all the places we visited - Holbox was the most special - mainly for the opportunity to spend time with the magnificent Whale Sharks, (we went to see then twice!!), but also for the wonderful friendly, relaxed nature of the Island - and the top notch service and accommodation offered by Holbox Apartments.

We are just back from a week on Holbox Island staying at Holbox Apts. The upper apt was perfect for usl. Private, sizable and with a wonderful view. We spent the week swimming with the whale sharks and manta rays and just relaxing on the veranda. It was very hot. so we did not sit on the beach, but went back and forth taking swims and cooling off. Mattius and Adla were helpful-getting us beer and providing us with a big bag of ice which they kept in their freezer.
The sunsets are outstanding. The breakfast that is included at a local restaurant was excellent.
That restaurant also makes delicious fruit smoothies.
This is the right place for someone who wants a low-key, quiet relaxing vacation.
We did experience some mosquitoes in the am. But spray did the trick. There were several overhead fans and a floor fan that kept us cool at night without the netting.

Holbox is a low-key, relaxing place, and the lovely Holbox Apartments perfectly matches the atmosphere of the island. The spacious upstairs apartment was exactly as advertised--the photos are accurate. Gorgeous view from the large terrace, which is partially covered with a high palapa roof & includes loungers for sunbathing and hammock for siestas. The sunsets from this vantage point are the best on the island!

We slept well on the king-sized bed under 2 ceiling fans, and were quite comfortable. I loved the huge, step-in shower, and took several cool rinses daily, as the temps were in the upper 90s. The upper deck catches the constant cool ocean breezes. Spacious closets, sitting area, kitchen table for eating & a mini-fridge that kept our drinks icy cold. We ate out every meal, but it was nice to have a coffee maker, sink, some dishes & a big dispenser of drinking water.

The new caretakers, Adla and Matthias are wonderful--answering all our questions, making recommendations, assisting with the wifi, and checking on us regularly to ensure we had everything we could possibly need. They were warm & welcoming, helpful yet unobtrusive. Having stayed in similar accommodations in the Virgin Islands and Bermuda, we know well that the balance between having privacy but service can be hard to find.

The apartment faces a large sandy courtyard with small palms, a couple of hammocks and chairs, where I enjoyed many mornings and afternoons in a little shade. Beyond is an outer courtyard with 2 palapas & wooden loungers, and beyond that a shelly beach. Unfortunately, there was quite a lot of seaweed awash, but this did not deter us from the water. Daily we strolled down the beach to the nearby small hotels where small fishing boats docked on the beach, but we much preferred our own beach for its privacy.

The location is ideal--just on the edge of town, which is only a few blocks square, so that you can easily walk to restaurants, cafes, and small markets, and just far enough from the small beach hotels that you feel you have your own private island. For the price, Holbox Apartments is an outstanding value. We've traveled a lot in the Caribbean, a lot in the Yucatan, and other parts of the world, always staying in apartments. For location, privacy, hospitality, and amenities, Holbox Apartments is definitely a top pick.

P.S. We did not encounter the raging mosquitos we had heard about. Coming from Alabama, we found far fewer here than in our own back yard! Do take repellent, though. I'm sure this varies by time of year, and they're certainly out at dusk.

We just got back from a relaxing two weeks on Holbox Island, "a hundred miles from Cancun geographically and a million miles culturally". The island is 90% tropical wilderness and 10% Mexican fishing village and virtually autoless. Tramping on the beach and birding in the interior interrupted by marvelous seafood dinners in town and jaunts to the mainland for coral reef snorkeling & underground cenote swimming. Best of all were our hosts, two more gracious caretakers would be hard to find: Mandy took care of our daily issues & John filled us in on what to see and where to look. A special treat was his friend Juan, who taxied us on the mainland to memorable spots. We can recommend the place unreservedly to like-minded people.
