“Hands down, the best ambiance on Holbox”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2014

We were staying at Mawimbi, but wanted to try lots of other places in town.We did have two larger meals here in our 10 days. But by far, the ceviche mixto we had for lunch one day was supremo. I have eaten ALOT of ceviche in many locales. (It is a standy-by favorite of mine) . Large chunks of shrimp, octopus and fish. Feet in the sand, palapa, right on the beach,,,,, ahhhhhhh. At night, the Mawimbi is truly magical. They have a basket of fly-spray on hand, so don't be worried. And the breeze straight off the ocean helps too! You can even chill out after in one of the many hamacas from the coco tress, under the tiki torches!! It is the nicest beach bar/restaurant right on the beach. Thanks for the fun.

“Contemplate the quiet sea with fresh fish, perfect guac & a cold beer.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2014

Barquito Mawimbi Beach Bar was 1 of our 2 favorite lunch spots. Beautiful setting on the under whispering palms. Soft, powder white sand to sink your toes in (no shoes allowed!!) Big smooth wooden tables, comfortable chairs. Friendly staff. Cold beer. Lots of cold beer. Perfect place to take a little break from the sun. Barquito a very communal feel -- travelers from other tables chat with one another. We met folks from the States, Canada & some lovely ladies from Holland. Great fun comparing Winter Olympic notes & travel stories.

My only note is that fish tacos across Mexico come in all different preparations. I wasn't a huge fan of a Holbox preparation with fish or shrimp in a tomato sauce, so I started requesting an order of grilled shrimp, some guac, some limes & some corn tortillas. Delicious. Barquito was very accommodating. Watch out for their hot sauce though. It's pretty darn hot.

“Great spot - great food - hard working servers.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2014

Ate breakfast, lunch and supper here while we stayed at the Mawimbi Hotel. Great pasta's and the most delicious Azteca Soup. (Tortilla Soup) Dining with your toes in the sand and watching the waves on the ocean is a favorite spot for many tourists and hotel guests like us. The bar has an extensive selection and lists special drinks and food choices daily. Mixed Ceviche was a favorite along with the Octopus Ceviche. Pasta is fresh and tasty as was the chicken mole. Great spot to eat under the roof or outside at one of the several tables. Great drinks at the bar.

“Relaxing and intimate space”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2014

Ate almost all meals here during a weekend staying at Mawimbi, not just because it was easy and I was lazy, but because of the great service and tasty seafood! Lovely friendly servers really tried to remember my preferences and made no bones whatsoever about my being there by myself. Truly a gem!
