Zapata has some of the best seafood you will get on the island, and offers it in a number of ways that provide options for everyone in a group. Portions are generous, drinks are well provisioned, and the staff is excellent, friendly and responsive. The dirt floor is great for barefoot children and adults alike, and the tasteful, contemporary live music is a great update on mariachi. The dinner is guaranteed to make your top two or three (and this from someone who far prefers street food to restaurants). We have been here twice, 15 months apart, and the quality was the same both times.

Very friendly staff , excellent food and the best margaritas of the holiday, we met a young Aussie couple and had a very pleasant boozy afternoon. Note that swing seats and drunk blokes do NOT mix!,,

Viva Zapata was hopping when I approached and I thought it was because of the cool bar with swings and really outgoing staff. Then I noticed some of the plates being served and immediately asked for a table. I wasn't disappointed! It turns out the owner is himself a fisherman and clearly knows all there is to know about cooking fish as well. Everything was fresh and excellent. The service was as good as it gets and this establishment also gets top marks for ambiance and location as well. Thank you, Viva Zapata, for the best dining experience I have ever had on Isla Holbox. This spot is a MUST for anyone travelling to Holbox -- whether for drinks, dinner or both!

On the recommendation of one of the hotel staff where we were staying we tried Viva Zapata. We both had sea-food and were happy with our meals. My wife had a spicy shrimp and I had a fish cooked the banana leaf on the grill. It's a pretty fast moving place with waiters flying around and there is live music, but be sure to try the hand-made tortillas! Price were reasonable for the island. Our dinner of two entree, appetizer and a couple of drinks came to about 550 pesos

The food was average at best. We ordered two starters, the waiter served one of the two. Then we added another starter. He served the two but one of them was incorrect. He got nasty when we explained to him what he served was not what order. He then stopped serving us and had someone else deliverr our dinner. This was even worse. They forgot one dinner and said the fish tacos would be out in a couple of minutes. Fifthteen minutes later we still did not have the tacos and the new waiter said it would be another 15 minutes at which point we asked for the check and left. The drinks were also terrible.
