We were staying at La Palapa hotel where Casa Nostra shares the property. Because our room eas not ready and the weather was bad, we decided to wait here. We were cordially greeted and had a nice Mojito and later we had a bottle of their house wine. The chef likes to walk around and talk to guests. After some time we had the Pesto Pasta. Well executed and very tasty. Overall this is a great little restaurant by the ocean. I only marked it down because credit cards are not accepted. ATMs are hard to find and often are out of money, so plan ahead and bring at least $100 dls per day/per person if you intend to eat and drink.

Casa Nostra is attached to la Palapa Hotel on Holbox but is run independently by Giuseppe, a Sicilian chef. We chose to have all our meals there because the competition did not measure up at all. The food had a very Sicilian flavour with touches of the Mexican. Breakfasts were varied with something for all nationalities (not being too keen ourselves on refried beans or USA signature dishes). Lunches could be delicious panninis or Mexican ceviche. Dinner specials changed every evening, with fish, meat and pasta and desserts to die for. It is a smallish outdoor restaurant by the sea advertising no mosquitoes. Having read other reviews, I did wonder if I was reviewing the same restaurant! The hotel's inclusive continental breakfast was fairly boring and we chose not to have it. We paid about 60 pesos for our choices, which is not expensive. I think the evening meal was the equivalent of 15 pounds sterling, not cheap, but to pay that amount is up to the customer. We both loved it.

For an island in a rustic ambiance, we had a great fresh pasta, mastered to perfection.
The chef prepared a limoncello tiramisú, and I can say is the best tiramisú I had ever tasted. It had not the water sensation that is usually felt on the bread.
The selection of wines, although not huge, in enough ammounts to pair with food.
The chef Giuseppe Genovese took the time to speak with us to undestand our needs.

While staying at the hotel here, La Palapa, we had a wonderful dinner at Casa Nostra. Run by a Sicilian, Beppe, there are lots of great things on the menu. Our favorite was spaghetti in octopus ink. This brought us right back to Sicily, where we had the same thing. There is a good wine list with Sicilian and Italian selections. They also serve a good breakfast.

We stayed at the hotel and had lunch here on our first day. We both had pasta dishes which came out great. I would give the restaurant 5 stars, but took one off as this was one of the most expensive restaurants we ate at on the island.
