In our second trip to Holbox, we decided to stay in Mawimbi for our honeymoon for 2 nights (July 31st-Aug 2nd).

Pro's:It has an awesome location, right on the beach, near the port (in case you're interested in doing the whale sharks trip), 3 minutes away from downtown. All the rooms have air conditioned. The set up on the beach is really nice, a lot of hammocs, chairs, everything. Good breakfast and the food is great.

Con's: The service in the restaurant is a little slow. Watered down beverages. Anyways, we will go back soon.

They offered the whale sharks tour but we did it with Willy's whale sharks tours. It's less expensive and Willy offers an outstanding service.

Room Tip: Try to pick a room in the first floor so you can get a nice view of the beach. And they're less noisy.

We spent a short 4 days at Mawimbi, and loved every minute. The staff are helpful and friendly without being intrusive at all. I have a gluten allergy, so they made sure that we had delicious quesadillas with our fruit for breakfast, instead of toast. We also went on an amazing whale shark tour. The beach is beautiful, but the water is a little murky, as the boat launch is nearby; that did not really bother us though but don't expect crystal clear waters right off the beach. The town of Holbox was really small and the people were all very friendly. The people in the stores were not pushy, and we appreciated that after shopping in some other places. We will most definitely be coming back for a longer trip & will bring our kids. Thank you for the most relaxing vacation we have ever had!

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are wonderful and very quiet.

My husband and I just got back a week ago from Isla Holbox and we stayed at the fabulous Hotel Mawimbi for 10 days. From the day we arrived and till the day we left we had the best time. The staff of Claudia, Jeevyl, Sofia, Francisco and the owner Ornella (never got her husbands name) are just awesome !!
We stayed in one of the Bungalows with a kitchenette and it was just gorgeous. Clean and decorated with love. The bathroom was a bit low in height, so if you are taller than 6.3 feet you might have a problem standing up. The stairs to the bedroom and bathroom are a bit steep - we learned quickly to take them slowly going down.
The beach is the best on the island, plenty of chairs and space to relax - you just never wanted the day to end. And everyday the gardeners would rake the sand on the property and keep everything looking pristine. Always smiling when doing so:)
And the food served at their restaurant was just delish. The Octopus Carpaccio - out of this world. The grilled Calamari - outstanding! The drinks and their wine selection - excellent.
I also want to mention that my husband had gotten food poisoning from one of the restaurants in town and Ornella immediately brought us meds to get him back on his feet. He lost a day but thank god for the miracle meds he had taken. It could have taken a lot longer.
We also booked the Whale Shark Tour with the hotel and we were not disappointed. The tour is fabulous - a must when visiting the island. The hotel has a Speedboat which cuts the time almost in half. The guides on the boat were absolutely professional and took super good care of everyone. We also stopped for some snorkeling on the way back which was just beautiful.
We rented a golf cart one day and that was just hilarious. We take the cart to the end of island and the cart decided not to drive forward anymore. Even with the help of some friendly fishermen we could not get the cart in gear. Thank god for a family coming our way who took us a back to the hotel where Claudia immediately got us another cart. And that one just cruised around perfectly.
Yeah, it was one fun adventure for sure.
So yes, we will return for part II - it would be a crime not to.

Room Tip: We will book the ocean view next time - don't wanna climb those stairs again :)

Mawimbi was a much needed get away from the often hard to escape "Cancun" tourism in Yucatan.
Despite its remote location, fa I litotes were clean and comfortable. The beach front cafe/bar food was very good. Highly recommend the whale shark tour.
At the end of our stay, the bill wAs unbelievable. Far less than we expected for the amount of food and drinks consumed.
Cannot wait to return.

My wife and I stayed at Mawimbi last week based upon the reviews on Trip Advisor and it did not disappoint. The central location on the best beach in the hotel zone made it ideal to walk to everything. The staff and the owners went out of their way to make you feel like you are at home. Holbox is more rustic than Cancun but if you want to get away from the world this is the place.
Whale Shark season is in June July and August and it is a must, Mawimbi has the fastest and one of the newest boats on the island and when you are going far off shore speed and reliability should be considered. We had the most amazing time at Mawimbi.
