“The most relaxing vacation ever!”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

My hubby and I just returned from our stay at Mawimbi and through our many years traveling together, this was the most relaxing vacation ever (helps that you're on a beautiful beach, welcomed by friendly staffers, and you're "unplugged" for the week)! The "crab" room was small but comfortable, the breakfast light but filling, and the white sand and warm waters speak for themselves. The place is immaculately groomed, room cleaned daily and loved the tropical natural setting. Also appreciated the complimentary breakfast and cold water cooler (little touches and the friendliness of everyone - from the servers to the front desk and cleaning staff - mean a lot to us). Highly recommend the whale shark tour (VIP Holbox/Whale Shark Daddy), renting a golf cart for 2 hours to see Punta Coco and Punta Mosquito to see the flamingos, and eating at Viva Zapata, Los Peleones, Zarabanda, and Buena Vista Grill restaurants (in that order). Also, like everyone said, please get cash from the airport ATM or bring money for the currency exchange (since the island's ATMs are unreliable). The hotel also arranged transfers from Transfer Holbox which freed a lot of stress for us on transportation (plus, the price was very reasonable). Enjoy your stay at this beautiful island and resort. We're already making plans to come back!

From the moment we arrived at Mawimbi's palm shaded doors we knew we were in good hands. Jeevyl is so kind and caring. She showed us to our sweet upstairs room and invited us to Barquito for a complimentary cocktail. We were greeted by Francisco, who in my opinion, can do no wrong. His food and drinks were sublime the entire length of our trip. Mango margaritas, pina coladas, ceviche, pulpos... the octopus carpaccio... that man could bring it!! The whole hotelito is so cozy and and charming with nice little touches like shells as light covers and planters... I guarantee you that you will be bringing decorating ideas home with you. The entire place also smells terrific... I don't know if it is what they clean with or some hidden incense, but I always noticed a wonderful odor in the air. Oh, and can we talk about the beach?? Amazing!!!!!! First of all, it is uncrowded... secondly, it is sugar white sand with crystal clear water that you can bask in all day. Do yourself a little favor and walk down the beach in the direction of the flamingos and you will see many fish as you wade or swim. I found baby starfish, as well... and did I mention... you have the beach practically all to yourself??? Yes, I did, but I just had to say it again cause it is AWESOME!! Take lots of photos cause your friends back home will be ever so jealous!! Also make sure to sit out on the beach at night doing some stargazing. You can either sit on the lounge chairs, beds or go to the sweet little pier which is minutes away. So simple, but the amount of stars/constellations you will feel like you can just reach out and touch is incredible!! I highly recommend Mawimbi... and I would go back in a heartbeat... thank you, Onny, Jeevyl and Francisco for making our stay so incredible.

Room Tip: I believe if you want a beachfront room, which looked amazing... you should try to reserve at least...

This is a boutique hotel with eco friendly and strong environmental values. Easy eco lux living. Quiet location yet close enough to town for any action. Highly recommend this place for relaxing or just passing through. We used the hotel for there own whale tour. Leo and Andreas collected us right outside the hotel. They have the best and fastest boat by far for a private tour and get to the locations quicker than anyone else.
We were lucky to not only swim with the whale sharks but we also found a baby whale shark which was a rare site.

We will be back to these shores.
The food served here is to a
high standard too.

Posada Mawimbi was such a breath of fresh air for us. My husband and I spent the best part of our honeymoon here and instantly fell in love with it! The accommodations were extremely comfortable (the bed was amazing!), the food at Barquito was awesome, and the staff made us feel like we were part of the family. There is an incredible attention to detail in the hospitality, from the emails exchanged with Jeevyl and Ana regarding our reservations and airport transfers, to the welcome/congratulatory note in our room when we checked in, to Sophia, Randy and Francisco popping open cerveza and blending fresh mango margaritas with friendly smiles, there was no part of our stay that was without pleasantry and enjoyment. I highly recommend Posada Mawimbi, but my only hesitation in writing my review is that we wanted to keep it our little secret ...

Onny and Carmelo really know how to run a great business!

Room Tip: Our room (La Palma) opened up onto the beachfront, which made for an incredibly relaxing and almost...

As It is the best place to stay. Right on the beach with few rooms, MaWinbi offers a quiet while still lively surrounding. Everything here is made for you to enjoy. The beach is cleaned every day, the rooms are nice, the restaurant is great and the service discreet and friendly. Cannot wait to go back there !

We loved Mawimbi! The resort is absolutely beautiful. Palm trees and tropical foiliage everywhere. The best beach on Isla de Holbox. It's even more beautiful then the website. We loved our room, with it's tropical mexican accents. The place exudes that relaxing tropical feel through out the resort. The beds were so comfortable! We had stayed at another resort during this vacation, and I must say Mawimbi afforded the most comfortable nights sleep. The resort has the most relaxing atmosphere, along with it's beauty, and it's right on the beach! The food was amazing and very well priced, very fresh! The best shrimp quesodillas and guacamole on the island! We did the whale shark tour. What an amazing experience. We swam with not only whale sharks, but gorgeous, huge, manta rays as well. The guides were the best. Making sure that everyone would have the best experience ever, with these amazing creatures. The staff at Mawimbi are wonderful. This is a very well run resort. Transfers, tours, and all of your needs, in exploring this island, are run like a fine tuned piece of machinery. Ana, in reception was absolutely wonderful! Thank you Ana! In the words of Arnold Swartsnagger, "I'll be back!"

Room Tip: All rooms are great.

We love this hotel. The staff is great the rooms are clean and comfortable. They've added some additional outdoor terraces to a couple of the rooms. This was our second stay and we will go back again! They play great music at the bat it's very peaceful on the beach. The hammocks are great. Took the whale shark tour. The guides were very professional and respectful to the animals. Twice daily the crew rakes the sand at the resort AND sifts it! Little piece of paradise. The island is prospering. Get there before the big commercial guys come in. It's not busy like Mujeres yet but it will be one day. Thanks to the staff for making our making our anniversary special.
