What a fantastic experience - both the Manzanilla Ridge log cabins we stayed in and the Hunter Valley.
Firstly, it is a long time since we have stayed somewhere were the hosts could not be more helpful - it really does show that they've been in the hospitality business for some years and know how to make their customers feel welcome - a real home from home.
Well a home from home with an outside hot spa with views overlooking the Hunter - not to mention the outside BBQ to throw on a few prawns whilst drinking the local wine you've just bought.
You don't even need to worry about bringing your own BBQ pack as Dominic and Jane (the hosts) can provide these or even home made pizzas.
But don't eat too much on the evening - leave some room for your breakfast pack (included in the price and all items sourced locally) - basically everything you need to make a great breakfast to help you see off the hangover. For the adventurous there's also a bread making machine.
We booked direct with them after finding them on the net - very pleasant to deal with and easy to make the arrangements.
The cabins themselves are amazing - beautiful from the outside and in. They have full facilities and all three double bedrooms had their own bathrooms - fantastic if sharing with friends like we were.
Kitchen was also well stocked with all the gadgets you require - gas hob, oven, microwave, bread maker and espresso machine for a start. Everything that you require had been thought of.
So - I can thoroughly recommend the Ridge as a great place to stay in the Hunter.
The price was Aus$295 (£120) a night - which when you consider you can easily accommodate 6 adults in the cabin is an absolute bargain!!
Oh and I nearly forgot - they even give you a free bottle of port to enable you to wash down the cheese you have bought from the Smelly Cheese Shop.
Finally - keep your eyes peeled for the local wildlife - Kangaroos, Koalas, Iguanas, Wombats to name a few - all are able to wonder right up to your cabin.
