We stayed here on 16th December 2013 to be close to the Waitomo Caves. The caves are worth the experience. From there, the drive to the caves is not a long one - perhaps 15 to 20 minutes by the time tickets are organised for the cave tour. There is the The Big Apple Café near the inn(less than 5 minutes drive?) - an incredibly good place to eat and drink for breakfast lunch or dinner. Now, to the inn. Our room was clean and affordable. We were given clean towels, a TV clean beds, and a small fridge. It was all quite acceptable. We three(one is a child) paid $130 NZ to stay one night. We were given free internet access (from the lounge area near reception) that did not work for us. We were told that there was sometimes issues with their connection but eventually it would be sorted out. It was the only place in during our 12 day stay in NZ that we were not able to successfully get internet access. I assume from the manager's reaction that it was unusual that access wasn't available to us, though we weren't given a solution to the problem.
While the room was clean, it also appeared to have been "fumigated" with too much air freshener or something like that. Additionally, there was cow urine smell wafting every so often through our room. We worked out that there are cows in a paddock next door to the inn. That wasn't as bad as I thought once we got used to the intermittent odour. We were very surprised to see two big trucks with dog trailers parked right next to and along a set of steps that were critical to be used as a thoroughfare for guests to walk to and from reception from and to their rooms. I was so gobsmacked at where these trucks were parked that I photographed them in relation to those steps. It did require us to take extra care when walking back to our room in the dark. Nonetheless, our experience was mostly good there. We didn't have breakfast or dinner at the Inn. We assumed from what we saw that it would be a good experience to dine there. Would I stay there again? Probably not. I'd be interested in trying something else nearby or even the Bed and Breakfast homestead type of stay.
